The students love getting to explore activities such as color mixing, name creation and shape building. We used the math activity trays to work on one to one counting and pattern making. Math is much more fun when we can use materials to create hands-on experiences for the children.\r\n\r\nIt was a fun surprise for the children to end their year with new materials! In the fall, the light table and materials will be used with colored blocks and other transparent materials to give students the opportunity to explore and play! It is because of donors like you that my classroom can become a place where children are able to get creative with their learning and enjoy experiences they wouldn't be able to have otherwise.","fullyFundedDate":1746448982514,"projectUrl":"project/lighting-the-way-in-tk/9217537/","projectTitle":"Lighting the Way in TK!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Behn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2425539_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1590623956218","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-behn"},{"teacherId":2425539,"projectId":9022788,"letterContent":"We have had such joy brought to our classroom because of the materials funded in this project! The children were so excited to discover what was in each box when it got delivered to our classroom and you cannot imagine the cheers they shouted when the sensory table arrived. I was using a small plastic bucket for sensory play before this project and as soon as it was built, we dumped the kinetic sand in the table and added construction trucks! It became a favorite center and a place where important social/ emotional learning was taking place. \r\nLast week, we began transitioning our classroom from a vehicles study to a Spring study. The sensory table provided the perfect opportunity to add soil and the bug counting/sorting materials for the children to explore and play. Then they find the blocks that have the letters on them to create the word. \r\n\r\n They are also loving all the nonfiction books during independent reading time. My students love read aloud time. This special time provides opportunities for us to hold meaningful conversations. The books that were donated to our classroom focused on friendships, problem solving, and communication. My students were able to make connections with the characters in the books and learn ways to be a good friend. They learned that being a good friend and getting along with others takes a lot of patience and understanding. They learned how to identify their feelings and to respond to them in appropriate ways. When we read \"Stick and Stone\", we learned of two characters who were lonely until they met each other and became friends. Through this friendship, they found happiness and helped each other deal with mean Pinecone. They both supported each other through their struggles. \r\n\r\nOur school word of the month for January is Friendship, so these books helped us to explore this concept in depth. We also learned about Martin Luther King and how he helped people to see that we are more alike than we are different and we all deserve love and respect and to be treated fairly no matter the color of our skin. \r\n\r\n During our read aloud of the book \"We Laugh Alike\", we learned that we are all the same on the inside with feelings and we can find ways to include everyone and spend time laughing and enjoying each other's company.","fullyFundedDate":1727986206443,"projectUrl":"project/positive-social-interactions/8528867/","projectTitle":"Positive Social Interactions","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9198557"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_110245","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1068,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"29.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":81.3,"schoolId":110245,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Johnson City Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Johnson City Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/johnson-city-central-school-district/johnson-city-primary-school/110245"}
