When the boxes came, the students were so excited to explore our new materials. So far, the kinetic sand has been our favorite sensory tool to use! The children love the way that it falls apart in their hands. \r\n\r\nHaving cube chairs has been a game changer for my students during classroom meetings! The children are able to better regulate their bodies, which allows them the opportunity to participate fully with their peers. \r\n\r\nThe puzzles have become a great challenge for us. What I love most about puzzles is that children love the challenge of completing them over and over again. This builds their focus and confidence in their ability to complete hard things. The pride and joy they exhibit when they complete it on their own is unlike anything else. \r\n\r\nI would not be able to make TK the fun, joyful, and supportive environment it is without your help.","fullyFundedDate":1767278778851,"projectUrl":"project/self-regulation-all-day-in-tk/9798283/","projectTitle":"Self-Regulation All Day in TK!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Behn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2425539_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1590623956218","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-behn"},{"teacherId":10109334,"projectId":9529483,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my students this year. I wanted to share how I'm using the materials you provided to support my kindergarteners with disabilities and how we'll build on that work going forward.\r\n\r\nThe floor cushions create cozy, flexible zones for independent reading, small‑group instruction, and calming breaks. These soft seating spots help students self‑regulate, signal personal space for turn‑taking, and make transitions gentler. I have a spot in my classroom designated for help calming down and students love to use these cushions in this space.\r\n\r\nMy kindergarteners have used the wooden tool set to learn their letters in a sensory-friendly way through rice and sand. I plan to have students practice zipping, snapping, buttoning, and tying during morning arrival and dressing activities, which promotes independence, self‑confidence, and pride in daily accomplishments using the life skills materials you donated. The wooden tools also strengthen pincer grasp and bilateral coordination through scooping, pouring, and sorting.\r\n\r\nClear storage bins and photo boxes have helped me organize differentiated task boxes for students based on their academic levels. Each task box is labeled with a student photo and step icons so learners can independently choose, follow pictured steps, and return materials—supporting choice, routine, and ownership. Once the student has learned the routine for using each task box, they can do these activities independently. \r\n\r\nLaminating materials allow me to create durable SEL resources: visual schedules, emotion charts, coping‑skill cards, and social stories with Velcro moveable pieces. These laminated tools make practicing self‑regulation accessible and consistent for students who communicate nonverbally or need visual supports. I have used these materials in my own classrooms and in general education classrooms my students are in.\r\n\r\nMini erasers have served as immediate, low‑stakes reinforcers for effort and persistence—used with token boards or as mystery prizes to celebrate small wins.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I will use the phonics kit, handwriting rollers, and hands‑on manipulatives for daily, multisensory small groups—pairing magnetic phonics with tactile tracing, and combining letter/sound work with sensory play and counting activities so students generalize skills across contexts.\r\n\r\nWith these materials, my students continue to become more independent, and my classroom space calming and inclusive to all learners. Thank you for your kindness and generosity, it is greatly appreciated!","fullyFundedDate":1764601099808,"projectUrl":"project/materials-that-matter-for-mighty-little/9529483/","projectTitle":"Materials That Matter for Mighty Little Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoover","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10109334_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764847732690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10109334"},{"teacherId":2425539,"projectId":9217537,"letterContent":"The light table and materials are such a wonderful addition to our classroom! The students love getting to explore activities such as color mixing, name creation and shape building. We used the math activity trays to work on one to one counting and pattern making. Math is much more fun when we can use materials to create hands-on experiences for the children.\r\n\r\nIt was a fun surprise for the children to end their year with new materials! In the fall, the light table and materials will be used with colored blocks and other transparent materials to give students the opportunity to explore and play! The children were so excited to discover what was in each box when it got delivered to our classroom and you cannot imagine the cheers they shouted when the sensory table arrived. I was using a small plastic bucket for sensory play before this project and as soon as it was built, we dumped the kinetic sand in the table and added construction trucks! It became a favorite center and a place where important social/ emotional learning was taking place. \r\nLast week, we began transitioning our classroom from a vehicles study to a Spring study. The sensory table provided the perfect opportunity to add soil and the bug counting/sorting materials for the children to explore and play.
