Our students are able to use resources that reflect their diversity and are aligned to their skills as readers and writers. They love the decodable series Tam and Pat, that reflect the aboriginal people of Australia. It closes mirrors their indigenous heritage in Central America and Mexico. The teacher's guides have been an invaluable tool for myself and my co-teacher. We have aligned materials and a scope and sequence that is easy to follow and provides structured literacy practice for improved literacy skills.\r\nOur students were so excited when they saw the books and phonics materials! They love to learn and use books and educational games during center time. \r\nNext steps are that our 2nd grade students will continue to learn and grow with these Teacher's guides, decodable books, and phonics games. We now have an abundance of social emotional and Social Studies materials that are greatly enriching our classroom environment. The prizes and materials you helped fund have added positivity to my classroom. Students anticipate their birthday bracelets. The squishy toys have also been a popular addition to my classroom prize box. \r\n\r\nMy students look at the world and U.S. maps on my wall constantly. Students regularly ask me if they can leave their seat to go look at the maps on my Social Studies wall. These maps have also helped supplement our Reading curriculum which often asks students to identify the countries they are reading about. \r\n\r\nI have displayed the books we received about famous figures such as Booker T. Washington, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. on my Social Studies wall. However, despite the growing importance of these skills, there remains a significant gap in early exposure and systematic development, particularly within educational settings. Research indicates that introducing computational thinking skills at a young age not only enhances problem-solving abilities but also fosters critical thinking, creativity, and logical reasoning—all essential competencies for success in the 21st century. Early exposure to computational concepts has been shown to positively impact students' attitudes toward technology and their future career aspirations in STEM fields.\r\nComputational thinking skills are important to begin nurturing as young as possible. Through an introduction to computational thinking, students learn the skills to recognize problems, break them down, and search for a solution. Students come across scenarios where computational thinking skills are needed every day, and they\r\nare skills that can be taught, and practiced. Students will be introduced to Sphero indi beginning in [choose grade level] to begin an introduction to Computational thinking. Indi is an approachable, entry-level learning robot for kids. When students use Sphero indi, they will begin with an introduction to basic programming concepts with a 100% screenless learning environment.\r\nI plan to use the Sphero indi robots to engage students in a collaborative, play-based, hands-on learning.environment to encourage creative thinking and problem solving. The use of Sphero indi robots helps students to both develop and refine their computational thinking skills across all four pillars of computational thinking:\r\ndecomposition, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, and abstraction. Sphero indi also encourages the development of several other 21st-century skills, including problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. The Sphero indi robots are introductory coding robots and are meant to teach foundational,\r\nprerequisite computational thinking skills that are needed to block code. Each of the color tiles acts as a different block of code, commanding indi's functions.\r\nBy providing our students with these robots and resources, we are giving them the tools they need to develop computational thinking skills and become innovative problem solvers and critical thinkers, preparing them for an increasingly digital world.
