Some students had a surprised look on their face, while others had curious eyebrows and were wondering, what would that look like in our art studio? \r\n\r\nAs the boxes were being delivered, students were anxious about what project material would look like and how would it affect them during their art studio time each week. They were excited and rambunctious with glee and anticipation. The next week we took to having an unboxing event, where each student was able to unboxed an easel for them to use that day. Students were excited and curious about how the pieces would go together and how it would work for them as an art tool, as nearly all of my students had never had the opportunity to use a real art easel in their lives. \r\n\r\nAs students figured out how to brace the easel on their table and place their artwork on the flat surface, students proclaimed things like 'this is awesome!', ' now I feel like a real artist!', ' hey Mrs. Ward, isn't this what like the real artists in the world use?', ' this makes coloring so much easier at a high angle!', ' I wish we had these back when we did our spring project!', ' how did they (our amazing donors) know that we needed this?!' , ' I think I can work a lot better now with the paper up like this where I can see it!'. \r\nThe our studio fell silent as students honed in on their coloring and painting of their artwork, using the new easels that our amazing donors had just supported our young and varying artists with. Our artist range in ages from 5 to 13 with a very diverse background of families, and home life, and school is very often their number one constant. For our students to be able to express themselves using adequate and correct tools and support items regardless of other factors, giving them the accessibility to express themselves is priceless.
