Your kindness has made a remarkable difference, not just in how my students engage with reading, but also in how they interact with one another.\r\n\r\nSince diving into Melody's story, I've noticed a transformation in my students. Their behavior has become noticeably kinder, and many have stepped up to become greater upstanders for their peers, especially those with special needs. As we went through the ups and downs of Melody's journey, students developed a deep sense of empathy. One powerful moment came during an activity where they experienced being in Melody's shoes for 15 minutes—they couldn't speak and could only communicate using a paper ACC with picture icons. This opened their eyes to the daily challenges faced by those with disabilities.\r\n\r\nSome students shared that they personally related to Melody's challenges and couldn't wait to share the next part of her story with their families. For others, \"Out of My Mind\" introduced them to a genre they wouldn't have chosen on their own, and now they're hooked. When they learned there's a sequel, they immediately asked, \"When are we getting the next one?\"\r\n\r\nYour generosity has cultivated more than a love of books; it led to deeper conversations about kindness, inclusion, and resilience. It has also fostered a stronger sense of community, understanding, and compassion. These lessons will stay with my students for years to come.
