As I move toward a balanced-literacy approach in my teaching, my students need access to high-quality, instructional level texts that meet their interests. In order to meet the varied needs of my students I would like to provide leveled books so that the children can keep track of their progress and therefore, see their improvement. Children will improve the most in their reading if they have the ability to choose books that interest them and provide a challenging, yet attainable, level of text. I'm hoping to encourage the struggling readers to have success, and challenge the advanced readers to become even better!
