Thanks to your generosity, students were able to enjoy hot chocolate while participating in a winter-themed book party centered around reading, reflection, and community.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the hot chocolate supplies and bookmark materials, they were excited. The festive atmosphere transformed our classroom into a cozy space where reading felt special and worth celebrating. Students created personalized bookmarks, shared recommendations with their classmates, and discussed the progress they had made on their individual reading goals and projects.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was listening to students enthusiastically talk about books they had chosen on their own. Many students who are usually quiet during class discussions were eager to share what they were reading and hear about what their peers were enjoying. The hot chocolate and winter theme helped create a relaxed environment where conversations about reading happened naturally.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue working on their personal reading projects and exploring new books recommended by their classmates. This celebration helped reinforce the idea that reading is not just a school assignment—it can also be a source of enjoyment, connection, and personal growth.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a memorable experience that encouraged students to see themselves as readers and members of a reading community!","fullyFundedDate":1730396010982,"projectUrl":"project/conversations-of-cocoa-foster-a-love-of/8890404/","projectTitle":"Conversations of Cocoa: Foster a Love of Reading This Winter!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Valenzuela","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7029548"},{"teacherId":7029548,"projectId":7337222,"letterContent":"When my students walked into the classroom and saw the new coffee tables, mugs, and coffee supplies, their reaction was immediate. Several students asked if they would really be allowed to sit around the tables while reading, and there was a noticeable excitement about having a space designed specifically for books and conversation.\r\n\r\nWe are using these resources during our weekly \"Standing Book Club\" and independent reading activities. Students spend time reading self-selected books and then gather around the coffee tables to discuss their reading with classmates. One moment that stood out occurred when a group of students stayed talking about their books long after the activity was supposed to end. Instead of rushing to leave, they were recommending titles to one another, debating character choices, and making connections between different texts. What does it mean to give to others? What is generosity and how did it touch our classroom? The students shared their understanding during our conversation and later we created a circle map of ways to give to others to enhance learning. When it was time to open the materials the students let out \"oohs\" and \"ahhs\" of excitement with each unboxing. The students love the relaxing pillows the weighted sensory balls and enjoy decompressing with them during breaktime. The most cherished item, however, is the flip sequin sensory board. The students love feeling the unique texture and show off their creativity by writing words and creating pictures with the sequins.
