The hands-on projects have been a hit with my students. We started with learning how to bead and make what they call \"kandi.\" From stars to fish and lizards, they created a lot of fun and colorful projects that are still hanging from keychains on their backpacks.\r\n\r\nNext, we went into our sewing unit. Some of the students had never sewn before, and I feel like this is an important skill to have. We started by using yarn and big needles on canvas grids, then moved on to using patterns and felt to make small stuffed animals. One of my English learners absolutely loved this, and he made a whole family of frogs.\r\n\r\nStudents struggled first with crocheting, but most of them got the hang of it, learning to make swatches. Some more advanced students even made scrunchies and learned to work in the round.\r\n\r\nWith the Nee Doh/squishy craze, clay was a HIT. They loved squishing it into shapes. I started by teaching them to make pinch pots, but some of them took off on their own making boxes, dishes, and little sculptures.\r\n\r\nWe still have a few weeks ahead of us to do origami, piƱatas, and perler beads. Students are enjoying this class and showing their creative sides while getting away from screens and using their hands.
