They could not wait to use all of these materials - they wanted to use them right away! \r\n\r\nWith your generous donation, I have been able to make our Knowledge reading lessons more hands-on and engaging. My students have absolutely adored the colonial costumes and gardening materials. They have learned so much by acting out our reading stories and getting to use all of these materials during centers. I have added the gardening and plant items to our indoor recess activities and that's the first bin my students want. The dry erase board has been fantastic in our classroom as it holds all of our anchor charts that we use for our lessons. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous contribution. When my students saw the activity boards and materials for learning, they were so excited! They were even clapping! \r\n\r\nUsing these materials, especially the felt boards has really expanded my students' speaking abilities. They were talking in complete sentences with their friends, and even going above and beyond what was being asked of them!\r\n\r\nThe students also loved building the chairs for the Goldilocks and the Three Bears STEM activity. Anything that involves working with their hands is right up their alley, and leads to even deeper thinking and use of language. The students were laughing and practicing social skills while working towards their goal together. This was the perfect activity for our EL classroom!\r\n\r\nThe feeling boxes were also crucial for growing their language, in particular using their descriptive language. The students were able to use their vocabulary to describe what they were feeling inside the box, while also working with one another to build more expansive language!\r\n \r\nI can't wait to use these materials with future students. With our new literacy series we needed a lot of new materials for station rotations. These materials will help be an added layer of practice for the kids to master their learning. The storage bins have helped us keep materials organized for each of our new units for readings and skills. They have learned all about the four seasons and different types of weather. We have added these books to our classroom bookshelf. \r\n\r\nIn addition, we have many assessments within our reading series. I purchased folder dividers to use during our testing days. For many of my students, this was the first time being represented in a story. It allowed them to share their own stories with their peers.\r\nOne of my students has hydrocephalus. We read the story from Abilities In Me about hydrocephalus and he was so excited to see the character like him. He spent time sharing with us what it was like to go into the \"big machine\" to take pictures of his brain and he proudly explained that he has a shunt, like the main character! This is a student who typically would only be interested in answering yes/no questions about our read alouds!\r\nWe also allow other classes to borrow our books to help peers understand their peers with disabilities. My sped team went through and helped select books that made sense for each classroom to read aloud. One story allowed a student to share that his dad uses cochlear implants to hear!
