As a first year special education teacher, the amount of resources I currently have to support students with disabilities are slim. I know that in order to be an effective special educator to my students, I must provide multi-sensory learning opportunities in order to promote academic growth. No two students learn the same, and as their educator I plan to meet each of their learning style needs. To be an effective educator, I also must offer my students social story scenarios in order to support appropriate wanted behavior. So... How will I use the materials you are donating? The Theraputty, Fastening strips (velcro), and kinetic sand will all be used during sensory breaks for students. Students can come to my room, take a 5 minute sensory break of their choice, then head back to class so that they are able to then focus and do their best. If students are having trouble staying focused in class for long periods of time, the flex space wobble cushion can be used as a sensory stimulant in their classroom chair. The MySELF Themed book sets will be used during read aloud time and will provide social stories for students that need practice on social skills, such as, how to play fairly, how to appropriately control anger, and how to be a good listener. With these all of these sensory tools and social skill accessibilities in my classroom, I will be able to positively impact my students academically and behaviorally in hopes to create smiles and success through sensory opportunities. I sincerely thank you for helping support my student's education.
