During this time, I set out different STEAM activities for the students to learn through exploration and play. The students have loved the new STEAM activities from this project. We have normal Magne-Tiles, but these glittery and reflective tiles sparked interest and wonder. Students were so curious about how the new tiles are magnetic but also have a mirror! Another favorite of the project were the Magnetic blocks. Students loved making different structures, and some even used the instructional booklet for ideas. While many of our donors love reading for enjoyment, in the classroom these books also serve as powerful teaching tools. They allow us to introduce skills like perspective-taking, analyzing author's purpose, and connecting themes across different cultures and experiences. Most importantly, they give our students the chance to see themselves reflected in literature—and to learn from voices and experiences that may be new to them. These lessons help foster empathy, critical thinking, and a sense of belonging that go far beyond the page.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is both a shared and personal experience. Students gather for read-alouds where we pause to discuss big questions, and they also dive into independent reading where they can choose books that speak to their own identities and interests. Having access to these new texts has transformed those moments—students are excited to talk about what they're reading, and the discussions are richer because they are connecting stories to their own lives.\r\n\r\nSome students who were previously hesitant readers have especially warmed to these new books. One child who rarely volunteered to share now eagerly raises their hand to connect a character's experience with their own family traditions. Another who struggled to find books that felt relevant is now devouring stories featuring protagonists who look like them. It has been inspiring to watch these students not only grow in their reading skills but also develop a stronger sense of confidence and pride in who they are.","fullyFundedDate":1736547663476,"projectUrl":"project/stories-to-amplify-diverse-voices/8841025/","projectTitle":"Stories to Amplify Diverse Voices","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Leavitt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3613212_orig.png?crop=306,306,x42,y75&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1596494437952","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3613212"},{"teacherId":3613212,"projectId":8930676,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of the laser engraving and cutting machine to our elementary STEAM lab. While many people know this kind of technology from home or hobby use, its impact in a school setting is truly special. Our students are using it to transform their ideas into tangible projects—designing, testing, and refining in ways that bring engineering and creativity to life. Whether it's cutting intricate shapes for science prototypes, engraving designs for art projects, or building models to support math concepts, the laser cutter allows them to see their learning take shape in the real world.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for our students has been watching their digital drawings or designs come alive as physical objects within minutes. There is a sense of awe every time they see the laser move and realize that something they imagined is now something they can hold. Some students who are quieter in class have especially thrived with this new tool. They have taken ownership as \"experts\" in designing and preparing files for the cutter, proudly teaching classmates how to use the software and equipment safely. It has been wonderful to see them light up with confidence and leadership, showing that this technology isn't just about tools and materials—it's about opening new doors for every kind of learner.","fullyFundedDate":1741369471881,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-young-innovators-with-a-laser/8930676/","projectTitle":"Empowering Young Innovators with a Laser Engraving & Cutting Machine","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Leavitt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3613212_orig.png?crop=306,306,x42,y75&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1596494437952","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3613212"},{"teacherId":8502369,"projectId":9730584,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations.
