During our training weeks, we brought drinks to educators throughout the building that know our students well. We knew they would be excellent customers and provide valuable feedback on the experience. Behind the scenes we finalized our ordering process with a QR code on a lanyard for students to bring with them when they deliver the drinks. We have worked to assure that each student has an equal job. Some of our students have a harder time with hygiene as they touch their faces frequently. Below is a run through of our coffee cart day!\r\n\r\nEvery other Tuesday our students type up fun facts about a specific subject. This week we wrote about Occupational Therapist Month for our amazing OT, Ms. Holly! The students write the facts in an email and send them to Ms. Holly who puts them all in an email to our staff with the order link for that week. During this time, the students are working on their IEP goals of typing, composing an email with correct spelling and spacing, fine motor skills, and following directions. As the students type their emails, classroom staff and Ms. Holly are there to help. \r\n\r\nOn the opposite Tuesdays, we run coffee cart! Students start by washing their hands thoroughly and don an apron. Ms. Holly (OT), Ms. Sandy (speech pathologist), and Mr. Nico (speech pathologist) join us for the period. We go over the job board and have students choose which jobs they would like to try that week. \r\n\r\nEquipment Baristas- our equipment baristas assemble our coffee sleeves by stamping them with our custom coffee cart logo, filling out an order sheet following an order sticker, then sticking the order sticker and stapling the order sheet onto the sleeve. \r\n\r\nEspresso Baristas- this crew is in charge of the brew! They work with a staff member to scoop ground espresso into the handles, tamp it down, and put it into the espresso machine. Then they press the correct button and bring the espresso over to the milk baristas when it is ready. \r\n\r\nMilk Baristas- whole milk, oat milk, or no milk- this team has you covered! They pour the milk into the milk frother carafes, ensure the settings are correct, and hit start. Once the milk is at the correct temperature and frothy, they work with a staff member to pour it into the correct drink. \r\n\r\nDelivery Team- to ensure our customers receive their drinks when they are hot, our delivery team goes out in waves throughout the period. Our speech pathologists work with students the week prior to locate each of the customer locations on the school map. Using this map, our students bring the coffee to the teachers, ask them pay using the QR code, and return to the classroom. Some deliver the drinks by hand, on a wheeled cart, and with cup holders clipped on to their wheelchairs. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your contribution to our coffee cart program!","fullyFundedDate":1734490381660,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-coffee-cart-club/8990205/","projectTitle":"Special Education Coffee Cart Club!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4850928_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733335779586","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4850928"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98501","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":830,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.3,"schoolId":98501,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jane Addams Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jane Addams Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/district-one-seattle-public-schools/jane-adams-k-8-school/98501"}
