When these resources arrived, my students were captivated. You didn't just fund books; you provided a gateway for them to explore how art, music, and literature can be used to celebrate identity, challenge injustice, and shape history.\r\n\r\nThese books have become a cornerstone of our classroom library. They are already being reused by students looking for inspiration for their independent writing and reading time. This module will continue to educate, inspire, and foster cultural empathy for many classes of 7th graders to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students' literacy, expanding their cultural horizons, and helping them find the power in their own voices. Because of your support, our classroom received a beautiful collection of books dedicated to the history and legacy of American Indian Boarding Schools.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students were thrilled to open them and see brand-new, high-quality books that looked different from our standard textbooks. This project has completely transformed our history and language arts unit, allowing us to approach a heavy and deeply important topic with the nuance, empathy, and respect it deserves\r\n\r\nThe impact of these books is best expressed through the students themselves. During a reflection circle, one of my students shared, \"I didn't know this part of history before, and it made me sad, but these books also showed how strong the kids and their families were to keep their traditions alive. It made me want to learn more about other cultures, too.\"\r\n\r\nThese books are not just a one-time resource; they have become a permanent, vital part of our classroom library. Because of your generosity, our 5th graders had immediate access to a rich collection of diverse books that perfectly aligned with our module topic: Athlete Leaders of Social Change.\r\n\r\nStudents used these books to conduct independent research to support their module essays and final performance tasks. They compared the diverse factors that contributed to different athletes' success in changing society. Further, they built critical vocabulary and reading fluency using texts tailored to their individual reading levels. \r\n\r\nThe impact of these books stretched far beyond just meeting English Language Arts standards. Having a dedicated, high-interest library transformed our classroom dynamic in several ways. Seeing diverse, real-world heroes overcome immense adversity sparked an incredible wave of engagement. These biographies served as incredible case studies for our curriculum's core values. Students routinely discussed traits like perseverance, integrity, and compassion.
