The materials you funded have already made such a meaningful difference for my students.\r\n\r\nOur new PE kit has brought so much joy to recess and movement breaks. The jump ropes and assorted balls have helped my students practice teamwork, build confidence, and get their energy out in healthy ways. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students who usually sit out excitedly teaching each other new jump-rope tricks. It was such a proud teacher moment!\r\n\r\nThe chair-leg tennis balls have also been a huge game-changer. Our desks now glide quietly across the floor, making transitions smoother and helping everyone stay focused during lessons. My students joked that our classroom feels \"fancy\" now because it's so quiet when we move our chairs!\r\n\r\nWe were especially thrilled to add new books to our classroom library. The Latino Voices picture-book set has already sparked thoughtful conversations about identity, culture, and storytelling. My students have been so engaged and excited to see themselves and others represented in the stories they read. Meanwhile, our new Junie B. Jones chapter books and National Geographic Level 2 nonfiction readers are being checked out nonstop. I've watched reluctant readers proudly finish their first books of the year, and early readers stretch themselves with new vocabulary and topics like animals, weather, and space.\r\n\r\nThese resources will continue supporting us through our next units in reading, writing, and science as students explore new genres, practice research skills, and build stronger reading habits.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the tools, joy, and confidence they deserve. Your kindness truly makes a difference every single day in Room 53.","fullyFundedDate":1756841011867,"projectUrl":"project/help-support-ms-heimbigners-fourth-gra/9518471/","projectTitle":"Help Support Ms. Heimbigner's Fourth Grade Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Heimbigner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8638021_orig.jpg?crop=1102,1102,x220,y952&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723236010188","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8638021"},{"teacherId":6162021,"projectId":9619724,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous contribution to our \"First Notes, Bright Futures\" project. For many, it was their first encounter with tools used in real-world broadcasting, and they immediately felt like professionals themselves, boosting their confidence and engagement.\r\nThe timing of the grant allowed us to implement these changes before the end of the school year, giving our teachers and students the chance to experience the difference firsthand. We use the games during math rotations to practice key skills like multiplication, division, and problem-solving. One particularly memorable moment was when a group worked together to solve a challenging multi-step word problem—they were so engaged and excited, cheering each other on as they strategized. The prize box has also been a fantastic motivator, encouraging positive behavior and rewarding students for their hard work.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their excitement was contagious! They immediately began exploring the colorful games and prizes, asking when they could start playing and brainstorming ways to earn rewards. Their enthusiasm reaffirmed how impactful these resources would be in fostering both learning and a sense of accomplishment in our classroom.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we're focusing on fractions and decimals, integrating the math games to make these concepts more engaging. We're also beginning a class project where students will design their own math board games, incorporating the skills they've learned. This creative endeavor will allow them to deepen their understanding while fostering collaboration and problem-solving among peers.","fullyFundedDate":1726520644428,"projectUrl":"project/learning-can-be-fun-in-ms-moons-class/8787107/","projectTitle":"Learning Can Be Fun in Ms. Moon's Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9164973"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34659","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":804,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":60.4,"schoolId":34659,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about James K Polk Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"James K Polk Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/alexandria-city-public-school-district/james-k-polk-elementary-school/34659"}
