Drums heads were ripping off their bases, and mallet heads would crack or break during use. We were able to replace all of these with more appropriate materials that the students are happy and proud to perform with. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, when classes combine for music, there are sometimes more than thirty students in the classroom, and many materials needed to be shared. Now we have enough scarves, orff mallets, boom whackers, and unpitched percussion instruments to include every student at all times. There are also enough white boards with staves on the back for students to write on. We have been using them during listening projects, and to practice notation. These materials have been a game changer. \r\n\r\nWe now have Latin American instruments as well as literature, to celebrate Latin American musicians and music. This had been something that was missing from our classroom, that I am so excited to implement during Hispanic Heritage month and throughout the year. The students love the guiros and ago-go bells!\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest treats was the wearable cajon (drum). I am able to conduct the choir, while adding percussion during rehearsals and performances at the same time. I used it to accompany \"Jolly Old St. Nick\" at the Winter Concert, and it was a hit with the students. They were so funny when they saw it - they thought it was my new purse that happened to make noise. It is going to bring more life to performances, and come in handy for years to come. \r\n\r\nI take great pride in my classroom and our music program. It has been such a privilege to be able to bring what had been missing to the students, and seeing the difference. I will continue to be grateful for your generosity, and continue to do my best to bring music education to our community in an engaging way.","fullyFundedDate":1726061231417,"projectUrl":"project/motivated-musicians/8658674/","projectTitle":"Motivated Musicians","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nagle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9671316"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_22570","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":419,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":22570,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about James H Boyd Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"James H Boyd Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/elwood-union-free-school-district/james-h-boyd-intermediate-school/22570"}
