My students have a variety of sensory, communication, and learning needs, so having hands-on materials allows us to support each student in a way that works best for them. Some of our biggest favorites have been the Bumble Bee vibrating pillow, weighted sensory butterfly, Emotions Coin Drop, and counting bears. My students were so excited to explore the new materials and continue choosing them during sensory breaks, center activities, and structured learning activities.\r\nThe vibrating Bumble Bee and weighted sensory butterfly have been especially helpful for students who seek additional sensory input or deep pressure. We incorporate these tools into calming routines and are teaching students that sensory tools are a positive way to help their bodies feel regulated and ready to learn. One of the most rewarding moments has been watching students begin to independently seek out a sensory tool when they recognize that they need a break or additional sensory input. The Emotions Coin Drop has also given us a fun, hands-on way to talk about emotions, make choices, and practice identifying and expressing how we feel. Our counting bears have become a favorite during math activities, where students practice sorting by color, creating patterns, and identifying similarities and differences while strengthening their fine-motor skills.\r\nThese resources have helped us create a classroom where regulation and learning can happen together. Rather than simply expecting students to sit still and learn, we are teaching them to recognize what their bodies need, choose appropriate tools, and return to learning when they are ready. Our next step is to continue building students' independence by teaching them how to appropriately choose and use these resources throughout the school day.
