Thanks to your kind donations, I was able to transform our learning space into a vibrant, collaborative environment designed specifically for group work. As I step into my new role as a K-6 Career Literacy Teacher, having a functional and inviting classroom makes a world of difference for my students.\r\n\r\nThe new shelves, material carousels, and organizational tools you provided have already made an incredible impact. In a K-6 setting, career literacy is all about hands-on exploration. Students work in small teams to investigate different industries, complete STEM-based career challenges, and practice real-world skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Because these activities require a wide variety of supplies—from design materials and building kits to reference books and interactive games—keeping our physical space organized is essential.\r\n\r\nBefore your donation, transitioning between different activities and grade levels could be chaotic. Now, the material carousels sit right at the center of our group tables, allowing students to access markers, scissors, task cards, and planning sheets instantly. The sturdy new shelving units give every grade level a designated spot for their ongoing projects. My youngest kindergarteners can easily clean up after themselves, while my sixth graders can independently locate the specific resources they need for their research projects.\r\n\r\nThis level of organization does far more than just keep our room neat; it maximizes our learning time and fosters independence. Because students aren't spending ten minutes hunting for supplies or waiting for materials to be handed out, they jump straight into collaboration. They are learning how to manage their time, share resources responsibly, and take pride in maintaining their classroom environment—all crucial habits for their future careers!\r\n\r\nTeaching career literacy to elementary students is about inspiring them to see what is possible for their futures. When my students walk into our transformed classroom, they feel respected, valued, and excited to learn. They see a professional, well-equipped space that signals to them that their ideas and projects matter. You didn't just give us physical items; you helped create an atmosphere where young minds feel empowered to dream big, work together, and explore the endless possibilities ahead of them.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and believing in the importance of early career literacy. Your generosity has brought endless joy and efficiency to our classroom, and we are deeply grateful for your support!","fullyFundedDate":1775840348769,"projectUrl":"project/from-pixels-to-projects-building-career/10106549/","projectTitle":"From Pixels to Projects: Building Career Literacy in K-6","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Merillat","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10438090_orig.jpg?crop=541,541,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771451677804","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10438090"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_55876","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":615,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":21,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":8,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.8,"schoolId":55876,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jacobson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jacobson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/chandler-unified-school-district-80/jacobson-elementary-school/55876"}
