These developmentally appropriate stories have helped young children better understand empathy by exposing them to characters who express a wide range of emotions and model healthy ways to address them. As we read and discuss the books together, students have become more capable of identifying their own feelings and recognizing how others might be feeling, leading to more compassionate interactions. The books have also empowered children to speak up for themselves by teaching them how to use their \"Big Voice\" to express needs, set boundaries, and solve problems respectfully. As a result, students are handling conflicts with greater independence and confidence. Overall, the classroom environment has become calmer, more connected, and more cooperative. Teachers are able to use the books as consistent tools for reinforcing social–emotional learning, helping students build essential skills in communication, self-regulation, and relationship-building that will benefit them far beyond the early childhood setting.","fullyFundedDate":1762267724028,"projectUrl":"project/conscious-connections/9722915/","projectTitle":"Conscious Connections","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crane","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8949823_orig.jpg?crop=1957,1957,x147,y390&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717168339172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8949823"},{"teacherId":8949823,"projectId":9598467,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in providing our classroom with materials for loose parts play. These resources have already made a meaningful difference in the lives of our young learners by opening new doors for creativity, problem-solving, and imagination.\r\n\r\nLoose parts play is a powerful tool in early childhood education. By exploring open-ended materials, children learn to think critically, experiment with ideas, and collaborate with their peers. They use the materials to build, sort, design, and create — all while developing essential skills in communication, planning, and persistence. These experiences not only strengthen fine motor skills and spatial awareness, but also lay the foundation for future success in STEM learning and social-emotional growth.\r\n\r\nSince receiving this grant, I have watched students transform everyday objects into rockets, towers, roads, and pretend play worlds. The excitement and focus on their faces as they plan and build show just how much learning is happening through play. Loose parts give every child a chance to be a creator and a problem-solver, and the sense of pride they feel in their work is truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nYour support has made it possible for us to provide rich, hands-on learning opportunities that nurture the whole child. The children love dancing, marching, and singing along under the open sky, and the freedom to move with music outside has created so many new opportunities for expression and collaboration. The addition of rhythm sticks and hand ribbons has made these experiences even more engaging. Students are practicing coordination, rhythm, and self-expression as they tap out beats, wave their ribbons through the air, and move together as a group.\r\n\r\nOne of the highlights so far has been our \"music parades,\" where the children march around the playground with rhythm sticks and ribbons while music plays through the speaker. The joy and laughter are contagious, and at the same time, the students are building essential skills in listening, following directions, and working together.\r\n\r\nThis grant has truly expanded what we are able to offer in early childhood education. Music and movement are vital parts of young children's development, and with these new tools, we are able to enrich both their physical and creative growth in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generosity and vision in making this possible for our students. These resources have brought joy, excitement, and meaningful learning experiences to my students every single day.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment the children first saw the wooden lines and curves, their faces lit up with curiosity. They couldn't wait to touch and explore the pieces, and their excitement grew even more when we worked together to create our very first Mat Man. The laughter, cheering, and eagerness to participate made it clear that these materials would capture their hearts as well as their minds. What began as a fun way to build a little figure quickly evolved into a foundation for learning about how letters are formed and how to draw people.\r\n\r\nNow, the materials have become part of our daily routine. We start by building Mat Man as a group, which gives the students practice with sequencing, body awareness, and collaboration. Then we transition into using the very same pieces to build letters. The children are discovering that letters are not mysterious symbols, but simple combinations of big lines, little lines, big curves, and little curves. This hands-on experience helps them connect the building process to the skills they will later need when holding a pencil and writing on paper.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable classroom moments happened during that first week of letter building. After we finished putting together Mat Man, one of my students carefully studied the pieces and exclaimed, \"I can make an E with these!\" With so much pride, she arranged three little lines across a big line to form the letter E, and then proudly announced, \"It's an E, just like in my name!\" Immediately, other children rushed to try building the letters from their own names. The joy and confidence they felt in that moment was priceless — they weren't just playing, they were making real connections to language and literacy.\r\n\r\nAs we continue to use the materials, I can already see how they are supporting my students' fine motor skills, visual memory, and confidence. The next step for us is moving from building letters with the wooden shapes to tracing them on paper and eventually writing them independently. This progression from concrete, hands-on exploration to abstract writing is exactly what young learners need to succeed, and it wouldn't have been possible without your help.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students more than just classroom tools — you have given them the chance to see themselves as builders, learners, and future writers. Every day, I watch their eyes light up as they discover that they can create something new, whether it's Mat Man or the letters of their names. These are the moments that set the stage for a lifelong love of learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible for our classroom. We are deeply grateful for your support and excited to share the progress we are making because of your gift.","fullyFundedDate":1754338911563,"projectUrl":"project/mat-man-adventures-books-to-help-us-lea/9235048/","projectTitle":"Mat Man Adventures: Books to Help us Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crane","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8949823_orig.jpg?crop=1957,1957,x147,y390&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717168339172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8949823"},{"teacherId":8949823,"projectId":9157015,"letterContent":"On behalf of myself and my Pre-K students, I want to sincerely thank you for your generous support in helping us add new books to our classroom library that focus on early childhood social and emotional learning. Your donation has already made a lasting impact on our classroom, and I am so grateful that you chose to invest in our youngest learners.\r\n\r\nFrom the very first day we introduced the books, the students' reactions reminded me why these resources are so important. As soon as I brought the books into our circle time area, children immediately gathered around, eager to look at the covers and flip through the pages. Their excitement was contagious. Several students began pointing to the illustrations and making predictions about what the stories might be about. I could hear them saying things like, \"This one looks like he's mad!\" or \"She looks like she's sad and needs a friend.\" Their natural curiosity and empathy shone through right away.\r\n\r\nThe books are also a wonderful addition to our quiet reading corner. I have noticed students choosing these titles during free choice time, sitting together and retelling the stories in their own words. Sometimes they even hold the books up like teachers and \"read\" to their classmates, showing how much they value what they are learning. These moments show me that the lessons from the books are reaching far beyond structured story time—they are becoming part of our classroom culture.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next big project is to create a class book titled Our Feelings Book. Each child will contribute a page with an illustration of an emotion and a sentence about what helps them in that situation. For example, one student might write, \"When I feel happy, I like to dance,\" while another might say, \"When I feel sad, I hug my teddy.\" When it's complete, we will bind the pages together so the children can read and share their feelings with one another. This project will not only help them practice self-expression, but it will also allow them to see that everyone has different emotions and strategies, which builds empathy and community.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students the gift of language to talk about their feelings and the tools to navigate relationships in positive ways. These are skills that will benefit them far beyond Pre-K—they are truly life lessons. Because of your generosity, my students are learning that their emotions are valid, that it's okay to ask for help, and that kindness and empathy make our classroom stronger.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in my students and helping to provide these meaningful resources. Your generosity is creating daily opportunities for growth, connection, and joy in our classroom. Your contribution is already having a profound impact on our students' learning experiences, and I am thrilled to see how these new materials are fostering engagement, creativity, and development in such a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nAs an early childhood educator, I believe that the most effective learning happens when children are actively involved and enjoying themselves. The materials you've provided, including bean bags, fidget pop-its with alphabet letters, and linking cubes based on the popular Number Blocks series, are wonderful tools that support learning through play. These hands-on, interactive resources are helping our students strengthen essential early literacy and math skills while engaging in activities they love.\r\n\r\nThe bean bags and fidget pop-its, in particular, have been a big hit in our classroom. The fidget pop-its, which feature alphabet letters, are a fun and engaging way for students to practice letter recognition and sounds. The tactile experience of pressing the pop-its not only keeps the children focused, but also helps them connect physical movement with learning. This kinesthetic approach is highly effective for young learners, as it taps into different learning styles and keeps them engaged. Through activities with the pop-its, the students are learning to recognize letters and their sounds, which are foundational skills for reading and writing.\r\n\r\nThe bean bags are equally valuable in reinforcing early literacy skills. Using the bean bags in various activities allows the children to practice letter identification, letter sounds, and even basic spelling, all while playing games that promote gross motor skills. The interactive nature of these tools creates an environment where learning feels like play, helping the students enjoy their educational journey while building their literacy skills.\r\n\r\nIn addition to supporting literacy development, your generous grant also helped us enhance our math instruction. The linking cubes based on the Number Blocks series are an excellent resource for teaching early math concepts in a fun and engaging way. These colorful cubes are a fantastic tool for hands-on learning, helping students develop a deeper understanding of numbers, patterns, and basic operations like addition and subtraction. The cubes are designed to engage students through visual and tactile manipulation, allowing them to physically see and build math concepts. This hands-on approach fosters a sense of exploration and curiosity in young learners, enabling them to grasp foundational math concepts while engaging in play.\r\n\r\nThe connection to the Number Blocks series is especially exciting for the children, as it ties in with a familiar and beloved show that they already enjoy. This familiarity makes learning math even more enjoyable, as the students can relate to the characters and concepts they see on screen. Using the cubes, the children can practice counting, building, and problem-solving—all while having fun. The cubes also encourage collaborative play, as the students work together to build structures and solve problems, which promotes social skills and teamwork.\r\n\r\nYour support has created a classroom where learning is exciting, hands-on, and deeply engaging. The materials you have provided are not just tools—they are opportunities for the children to explore, experiment, and develop a love for learning. The bean bags, pop-its, and linking cubes are more than just toys; they are essential learning resources that are helping to shape the future of our students by building the foundation for literacy and math skills.\r\n\r\nI am so grateful for your belief in the importance of play-based learning and for your commitment to enhancing our students' educational experiences. These supplies are already making a lasting impact, and I know they will continue to provide valuable opportunities for growth and development in the months and years to come. The positive effects of your donation extend far beyond the classroom—these materials are helping to foster confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning that will benefit the children for a lifetime.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your incredible generosity. Your contribution has allowed us to add much-needed storage solutions, including a storage shelf, a storage bench, and a totes. These items are already having a profound impact on our classroom environment, and I am so grateful for your support.\r\n\r\nAs an early childhood educator, one of the most important aspects of our learning space is its organization and accessibility. Young children thrive in an environment where materials are not only safe but also easy to reach and put away. Thanks to your donation, our classroom is now more organized and better equipped to foster independent learning. The storage shelf has provided us with a designated space to keep essential materials within easy reach, helping the students access them quickly and safely during learning activities. The storage bench has been a wonderful addition, offering both storage and seating, which maximizes our classroom's functionality without overcrowding the space. And the totes are perfect for organizing smaller items, ensuring that everything has a home and is easy to find when we need it.\r\n\r\nWith these new storage solutions, the students now have more space to move around and engage with the materials. In the past, clutter often took up valuable floor space, which sometimes made it difficult for the children to fully explore their surroundings. Now, thanks to your thoughtful donation, we have opened up areas of the classroom where students can freely engage in imaginative play, art, and hands-on learning activities. The organized environment helps the children learn responsibility, as they are encouraged to put materials away after use and treat their space with care. This not only enhances their development but also promotes a sense of pride in their classroom.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation goes beyond just the physical organization of the classroom. It helps to foster a positive, enriching learning environment where every child feels valued and has access to the resources they need to succeed. The ease of access to educational materials also enhances the quality of instruction, as I can spend less time organizing and more time engaging with the children in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. The materials are now more readily available for group projects, individual exploration, and creative activities, all of which contribute to a holistic educational experience.\r\n\r\nI want to emphasize how much your support means not only to me but also to the children in my care. By providing these essential storage items, you have made a lasting impact on the learning environment, helping to create a space where young learners can explore, grow, and thrive. Your generosity allows us to focus on what truly matters: the children and their development. This is a gift that will continue to serve them for years to come.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your incredible support.
