While reading this book, students practice analyzing character development, identifying themes, making inferences, and citing textual evidence to support their thinking. The novel also opens the door to powerful conversations about resilience, grief, hope, family relationships, and how people respond when life feels uncertain. It's the kind of story that helps students grow as readers and as people!\r\n\r\nEach year I teach it, this book brings us together as a classroom family. It creates a strong bond and connection as we make predictions about what will happen and then slowly realize what is actually happening in the story. Something shifts in my students when they \"get\" this book. It breaks down walls they may have put up between themselves and the characters they read about. They begin to want to understand and connect with those characters, and they discover how important it is to truly know the people in a story. They realize it is not enough to simply know about characters; it should feel as though you are spending time with friends.\r\n\r\nEach year, my students connect deeply to this book. Most are drawn in by the suspense and mystery of what might happen next, while others relate to the emotions and family dynamics the characters experience. I especially love seeing students who are usually hesitant readers become invested in the story and eager to share their ideas! It's as if this book opens up a whole new world to them, and suddenly they are invested in these stories and these people. Most importantly, when students see themselves, their questions, or their feelings reflected in a book, reading becomes powerful.\r\n\r\nI cannot tell you enough how genuinely happy and grateful I am to have a class set of this book. Thank you for giving my students the chance to experience this story together.","fullyFundedDate":1764784160746,"projectUrl":"project/the-end-is-not-the-end-inspiring-hope-a/9594796/","projectTitle":"The End Is Not the End: Inspiring Hope and Resilience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. F.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp225454_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755184064022","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/225454"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3362","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":619,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":3362,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about J.E.
