In counseling, we often talk about \"meeting basic needs first. Having a reliable stock of snacks allows us to immediately address a student's physical hunger or emotional dysregulation. When a student's nervous system is running on empty, a small snack can be the bridge that helps them move from a state of crisis to a state of calm and reflection. \r\nThe students' reaction to the new snack varieties was one of pure relief and gratitude. In the counseling office, students often feel vulnerable; seeing a bin full of options made them feel seen and cared for by people they don't even know. One student mentioned that knowing there is always food here makes them feel less anxious about getting through the long school day.\r\nAs we move closer to taking the State exams, these snacks will be vital. We are currently working with students on self-regulation techniques, and we're using the snacks to teach them how to identify what their bodies need—whether it's a \"crunchy\" snack for sensory input or a protein-rich one for sustained energy. Your contribution is \"literally fueling the breakthroughs and healing\" happening in this office every day.","fullyFundedDate":1771029922652,"projectUrl":"project/feed-hungry-tummies-to-help-regulate-emo/10052095/","projectTitle":"Feed Hungry Tummies to Help Regulate Emotions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bigio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9319676_orig.jpg?crop=1158,1158,x0,y227&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761846175240","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/c-bigio"},{"teacherId":2952176,"projectId":9834176,"letterContent":"WOW! Because of you, I am able to provide snacks to students in a school district that serves a low-income, underserved community. Your support has made a meaningful and immediate difference in the daily lives of the students I serve.\r\n\r\nAs a guidance counselor, I work closely with students who are navigating academic, social, emotional, and personal challenges. Many of the students I support come to my office already carrying heavy burdens. For some, hunger is one of those burdens. When basic needs are unmet, it becomes difficult for students to focus, regulate emotions, or fully engage in school. Your donation helped address this critical need.\r\n\r\nThe snacks you provided have become an essential support during counseling sessions, crisis interventions, and moments when students simply need a safe space. Offering a snack often helps students feel more at ease and willing to open up. I have seen firsthand how a small act like providing food can help de-escalate heightened emotions, build trust, and create a sense of safety.\r\n\r\nMany of the students I serve receive special education services or experience emotional and behavioral challenges. Hunger can intensify stress, anxiety, and dysregulation. Because of your generosity, I am now able to support students more holistically, ensuring that their physical needs are met while we work on emotional and academic goals. This has led to more productive counseling sessions and better outcomes for students.\r\n\r\nOne moment that deeply impacted our school community was when a student quietly shared that they had not eaten since the day before and arrived late so they missed breakfast. Being able to offer a snack in that moment allowed me to meet an immediate need while also reinforcing that they are cared for and supported. These moments remind me how vital this project truly is.\r\n\r\nYour donation has also helped foster a sense of dignity and belonging. Students are learning that there are people beyond their school who care about their well-being and believe in their potential. That message is powerful, especially for students growing up in communities that often face systemic challenges.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in the health, well-being, and success of our students. Your kindness has had a lasting impact, not just by providing snacks, but by helping create a supportive environment where students feel safe, seen, and ready to thrive. On behalf of the students I serve, please know how grateful we are.","fullyFundedDate":1762453932785,"projectUrl":"project/feeding-hungry-tummies-to-help-regulate/9865180/","projectTitle":"Feeding Hungry Tummies to Help Regulate Their Emotions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bigio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9319676_orig.jpg?crop=1158,1158,x0,y227&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761846175240","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/c-bigio"},{"teacherId":2952176,"projectId":9697598,"letterContent":"WOOOOW!!!\r\nThank you so much for your very generous donation that has supplied me with composition notebooks where each page has a space for both drawing and writing.\r\n\r\nI conduct individual counseling sessions with students on a weekly basis and frequently incorporate both art therapy as well as story writing as a therapeutic modaility.
