They also really enjoyed having breakfast snacks available in the morning - this was very helpful for my students who don't often eat breakfast but need that morning fuel. \r\n\r\nWe also really enjoyed having the snacks available for students when we had a small contest or good natured competition in the class. We ended up sharing all the great snacks with everyone, but these little bonus round snacks were even more fun! \r\n\r\nFood brings so much joy and pleasure to the often routine days of school. They practiced making predictions, documented changes, and discussed results using scientific vocabulary.\r\n\r\nThis lab really increased student engagement and created a sense of excitement as they watched to see which substance would dissolve the fastest in water. Many students asked thoughtful questions and eagerly shared their hypotheses about why some substances dissolved faster than others. Even some of my more reserved students were actively participating and collaborating with peers. They expressed curiosity about their observations during the lab.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will build on this experience by exploring concepts like solubility, temperature effects, and mixtures vs solutions. The experience strengthened students' understanding of solubility, molecular interactions and experimental design in a way that was both engaging and meaningful.\r\n\r\nWhen students first walked in and saw trays of brightly colored skittles arranged next to labeled solvent containers, the excitement was immediate. There were smiles, wide eyes, and plenty of predictions being whispered across tables. A particular memorable moment was when a group observed the colors spreading differently in the different solvents and discussing predictions for which solvent will dissolve the Skittles the fastest.
