The iPad has opened up new avenues for communication and learning, especially for my nonverbal students. With access to a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) apps, I've been able to trial different tools to see which best supports each individual student's communication needs. This has not only enhanced their ability to express themselves but has also empowered them with a voice they didn't have before. For students who previously struggled to participate, the iPad has created an engaging, interactive space where they feel seen and heard.\r\n\r\nWhat excites the students most is how hands-on and immersive the technology is. They are drawn to the bright visuals, fun sounds, and the ability to physically interact with their learning through touch. One student in particular, who was initially very hesitant to engage in therapy, now requests a specific \"Boom Card\" activity that I use via the Ipad. The iPad has become more than just a device; it's a bridge to connection, learning, and self-expression. Thank you again for helping make this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1743041096544,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-special-needs-learners-with-i/9180467/","projectTitle":"Empowering Special Needs Learners with Interactive Technology!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Francisco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9650434_orig.jpg?crop=658,659,x0,y204&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741206520017","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9650434"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2132","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":276,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":80,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"7.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.9,"schoolId":2132,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Intermediate School 171 Abraham Lincoln on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Intermediate School 171 Abraham Lincoln","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/is-171-abraham-lincoln/2132"}
