My students, who are used to making do with the backs of chairs or even the classroom walls for balance, were absolutely starstruck. There was a genuine \"wow\" moment as they realized they finally had the same professional equipment they see in professional dance studios. Seeing their eyes light up made it clear that this wasn't just about hardware; it was about validating their hard work and making them feel like the serious artists they are becoming.\r\nCurrently, we are using the barres daily to ground our technical warm-ups. A specific highlight was during a recent lesson on alignment and équilibre. For the first time, students weren't struggling to find a steady surface; they were able to focus entirely on the placement of their pliés and the precision of their tendus. One student remarked that they finally felt \"sturdy\" enough to test their balance without fear of falling. This stability has allowed me to give much more specific technical feedback, as the students are no longer distracted by a wobbling chair or a slippery wall.\r\nIn the future, these barres will serve as the technical foundation for our upcoming solo dance projects. As my eighth graders begin choreographing their own pieces, they are using the barres to refine the strength and flexibility needed for their independent performances. The next step is for them to transition the strength they've built at the barre into the center of the floor, applying that same sense of \"invisible support\" to their movement. Your generosity has provided them with the tools to reach a level of professionalism that was previously out of reach. Thank you for investing in our studio and our dancers!","fullyFundedDate":1769531288583,"projectUrl":"project/ballet-bars/9769131/","projectTitle":"Ballet Bars","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quiroz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9744617"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":262,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":46,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"7.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":53,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Middle School 131 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Middle School 131","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/is-131/53"}
