For many of our students, having proper athletic gear is not something that can be taken for granted, and receiving these cleats sent a powerful message, that they are worth investing in, that their athletic pursuits matter, and that they belong on that field just as much as anyone else. Girls were lacing them up with huge smiles, strutting around with the kind of confidence that only comes from feeling truly prepared and equipped. One player, who had previously been borrowing ill-fitting cleats from a teammate, slipped on her new pair and said she finally felt like a real softball player. That moment alone said everything.\r\nStepping onto the field properly equipped has done more than improve our players' physical performance, it has elevated their entire mindset. With cleats that fit correctly and were made for the sport, our girls are moving with greater agility, planting their feet with more confidence, and approaching every practice and game with a stronger sense of pride and purpose. Looking ahead, our team is preparing for our upcoming season with renewed determination, and these cleats will be on the ground for every drill, every scrimmage, and every game we play. Because of your generosity, our athletes are no longer just showing up — they are showing up ready. Thank you for believing in our girls and giving them the foundation, literally, to chase their goals.","fullyFundedDate":1772116117617,"projectUrl":"project/laced-up-for-learning-leadership-and-t/9972658/","projectTitle":"Laced Up for Learning, Leadership, and Teamwork","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Musa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10171324_orig.jpg?crop=719,719,x282,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758908735785","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10171324"},{"teacherId":10171324,"projectId":9958812,"letterContent":"The moment my students walked into the Sunrise Lounge and spotted the keyboard, clay dough, and Crayola molding dough, their eyes lit up in a way that reminded me exactly why spaces like this matter. Before these donations, early arrivers had limited ways to express themselves creatively before the school day began. Now, the room comes alive with students gathered around the keyboard picking out melodies, some for the very first time, while others sit together sculpting figures, animals, and little worlds out of clay. One student who rarely engages in group activities quietly sat down at the keyboard one morning and began playing a simple tune by ear — by the end of the week, three other students had pulled chairs up beside him, eager to learn what he was doing.\r\nThese materials have opened a door that many of our students didn't even know was available to them. The Sunrise Lounge is now not just a place to wait for the school day, it's a place where creativity, calm, and community all happen at once. Moving forward, we're planning to let students use the molding dough to sculpt characters and scenes inspired by books they're reading, blending literacy and art in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. The keyboard will be used to let interested students begin exploring basic music concepts, with the hope of building a small informal performance for their peers. None of this would be possible without your generosity, and our students carry that gift with them every single morning.","fullyFundedDate":1771094677539,"projectUrl":"project/art-music-materials-for-the-sunrise-lo/9958812/","projectTitle":"Art & Music Materials for the Sunrise Lounge","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Musa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10171324_orig.jpg?crop=719,719,x282,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758908735785","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10171324"},{"teacherId":622419,"projectId":9721151,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our cafeteria is already becoming the welcoming, connected space we dreamed it could be. Students are using the new board games, card games, and activity books every day during lunch, and it has been incredible to watch what happens when they sit down to play. One moment that stood out was seeing students from three different language backgrounds gathered around a single game, laughing, using gestures, and helping one another understand the rules. Even without a shared language, they were communicating, collaborating, and building friendships in a way that felt completely natural. These resources have truly helped break down barriers and create opportunities for meaningful connection.\r\n\r\nWhen the games first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were eager to explore everything, asking how to play and inviting others to join them. What was especially powerful was how quickly they began reaching beyond their usual groups—students who might normally sit separately were suddenly mixing, sharing, and including one another. There was so much joy, laughter, and curiosity in the room, and it transformed the energy of our cafeteria into something much more inclusive and vibrant.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to build on this momentum by encouraging student-led game groups and introducing new collaborative challenges that promote teamwork and communication. We're also connecting these experiences back to the classroom, where students can reflect on cooperation, problem-solving, and cultural exchange. Your support has helped create more than just a fun lunchtime—it's helping our students build confidence, friendships, and a true sense of belonging. The new books, fidgets, and snacks have transformed our classroom into a place where students feel grounded, supported, and empowered to lead. One of the first ways we used the materials was during a student-led mediation practice circle. As they read through the restorative justice texts, pairs of students highlighted strategies they wanted to try, then used the fidgets to stay calm and focused while they practiced responding to mock conflicts. What stood out most was how seriously they took the work—they were determined to build a space where every voice mattered.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were overjoyed. Several immediately flipped through the books, pointing to concepts they recognized in their own lives. Others carefully opened the boxes of fidgets and explored which ones helped them regulate during tough conversations. And when I put out the snacks, the entire mood shifted—students settled in, relaxed, and began sharing stories about times they had helped friends navigate conflict. These small moments of comfort and care helped create an environment where my students felt both safe and ready to lead.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, your support will continue to fuel our work. Students are now preparing for their first round of real peer mediations, and they're building a shared set of agreements and protocols based on what they've learned from the restorative justice books. They're excited, a little nervous, and incredibly proud. Because of you, they have the resources to strengthen our school community and to practice the kind of leadership that prioritizes healing, understanding, and compassion. We have been using the materials during our physical education lessons to teach teamwork, communication, and movement skills, and it has been amazing to watch their confidence grow each week. One moment that stood out was when a student who had never touched a football before threw a perfect spiral and the whole class started cheering.\r\n\r\nNow that the students are more comfortable with the basics, our next step is to build on what they have learned by introducing small-sided games that focus on strategy and collaboration.
