So far, we have primarily used them in an after-school setting, where students operate them with remote controls to build foundational skills in flight control, balance, and spatial reasoning. One of the most memorable moments was when we transformed our hallway into an indoor obstacle course using cones, hula hoops, and purchased drone obstacles. Students worked in teams to carefully maneuver the drones through the course, adjusting altitude and speed to avoid obstacles. The room was filled with focused silence during takeoff, followed by cheers when a drone successfully completed the course. The looks on their faces were priceless. For many students, this was their first opportunity to pilot this type of technology, and their sense of accomplishment was evident.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the drones, their reaction was immediate excitement, wide eyes, huge smiles, and a flood of questions about how they worked and how soon they could fly them. That enthusiasm quickly translated into careful attention and responsibility as they realized they were trusted with advanced equipment. While we have not yet flown the drones over our school garden, that is our next step later this spring. As we move forward, students will begin coding flight paths that allow the drones to conduct purposeful missions connected to our garden unit, such as capturing aerial images of raised beds, mapping plant growth areas, and observing changes over time. This progression from manual control to programmed flight will strengthen computational thinking while integrating engineering design and environmental science in an authentic, hands-on way.\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for your contributions to this amazing addition to our school!","fullyFundedDate":1757563255058,"projectUrl":"project/soaring-into-stem-with-drones/9610193/","projectTitle":"Soaring Into STEM (with Drones!)","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Nykamp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2488981_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1662329453382","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2488981"},{"teacherId":4060681,"projectId":9299517,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation. \r\nWe know you have a lot of choices when it comes to donating, and we are so grateful that you chose to donate to our school. These tables have quickly become vibrant spaces for hands-on STEM experiments, group projects, and creative learning activities. During Dot Day, for example, students gathered around the tables to explore patterns, colors, and designs, collaborating and sharing ideas in a way that was lively, engaging, and fun. Their excitement when they first saw the welcoming tables was contagious and they couldn't wait to dive into projects together.\r\n\r\nThe outdoor tables have also transformed how we approach lessons by providing a space that connects classroom learning to the natural world. Students are now able to conduct science experiments, make observations, and record data right outside, bringing concepts to life. For our current unit on pollinators, students will use the tables to observe plants and insects in our courtyard, developing skills in observation, measurement, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nThese tables are more than just furniture, they are fostering curiosity, collaboration, and a love of learning every day. By providing an inclusive and engaging outdoor environment, we are supporting not only our students' academic growth but also their social-emotional well-being, helping them thrive and enjoy coming to school each day.","fullyFundedDate":1746642878290,"projectUrl":"project/brains-bites-benches-tables-for-lea/9263676/","projectTitle":"Brains, Bites, & Benches: Tables for Learning, SYEM, & Gatherings","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Nykamp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2488981_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1662329453382","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2488981"},{"teacherId":6623252,"projectId":9064706,"letterContent":"This technology allows students to practice fundamental skills surrounding their English literacy. These headsets in particular allow for access to all of the features on several platforms that partner with our districts. English language learners need consistent practice with listening and speaking. Listening helps them develop skills from different aspects of the English language like phonemic awareness, grammar, and prosidy. Speaking allows them to practice applying these skills; making the right sounds, putting words together in the right way. Being able to use headsets with built-in microphones dramatically increases the amount of time students can allot to practice these skills, giving them a better chance at learning English quickly, making them more academically competitive with native English speakers. \r\nThank you for supporting their futures!","fullyFundedDate":1738001602902,"projectUrl":"project/give-the-gift-of-listening/9064706/","projectTitle":"Give the Gift of Listening!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Malary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6623252"},{"teacherId":4060681,"projectId":9021403,"letterContent":"Thank you for providing my students with the best essential items that will help aid in the joy of day-to-day hands-on learning.
