The phonics word work materials have been especially impactful during our small-group reading instruction. Students use the magnetic letters and trays to build, blend, segment, and manipulate words as we strengthen the foundational reading skills that are so important in first grade. It has been wonderful to watch students physically move sounds and letters while making connections between what they hear and what they see in print.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic building blocks and jumbo chalk have brought even more excitement to our classroom. My students were thrilled when they first saw all of the colorful new materials! The building blocks encourage creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and STEM thinking, while the chalk gives us another fun way to take learning outside and practice letters, words, math skills, and creative expression. Our new rolling storage carts have also helped keep these materials organized and easily accessible so we can spend more time learning and less time searching for supplies.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building stronger, more confident readers by progressing from individual sounds and simple words to more complex phonics patterns, word building, reading, and writing. We will also continue incorporating our STEM materials into opportunities for students to design, build, problem-solve, and work together.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me provide my first graders with learning experiences that are engaging, purposeful, and memorable.
