Before receiving these calculators, many of my students struggled to fully participate in lessons simply because they did not have access to this essential tool. Now, every student can actively engage in learning without feeling left behind.\r\n\r\nIn physics, students are confidently calculating speed, acceleration, force, and energy during hands-on labs. In Dual Credit Biology, they are accurately analyzing data from enzyme reactions, population genetics, and cellular respiration labs. In forensics, students can now properly calculate blood spatter angles, time of death estimates, and measurement conversions with precision. The calculators have transformed these activities from frustrating to empowering.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the independence the calculators provide. They no longer have to wait to borrow from a neighbor or guess their answers. Instead, they feel capable, prepared, and confident. Many students have shared how much less stressful labs feel now that they have the correct tools in front of them.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been especially meaningful for students from low-income households and those who often struggle with math anxiety. These students have shown noticeable growth in both participation and confidence. They are volunteering answers, checking their work carefully, and taking pride in getting accurate results.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has removed a major barrier to learning in my classroom. Working together, they cleared the space, laid down a weed barrier, and replanted with flowers and raised garden beds for tomatoes, herbs, and berries. Students took great pride in watching the transformation from an unused patch of land into a colorful, welcoming area that reflects their teamwork and dedication.\r\n\r\nAs the school year continues, our Gardening Club is making plans to build on this progress. Students are beginning to learn how to harvest seeds to replant for next spring and are exploring ways to manage invasive plants and pests. They are excited to see how their garden can continue to grow with each season. In the longer term, the club is preparing to start a small plant nursery and fundraise by selling office plants to staff and community members. By identifying the ways in which chemistry is entangled around us, we hope to allow students to critically consider how resources are used and their impacts. \r\n\r\nOur classroom depends on reading to build those complex ideas and diversify perspectives. These products have not only improved their personal well-being but have also significantly impacted their school experience and engagement.\r\n\r\nIn the classroom, having access to feminine hygiene products has alleviated a lot of stress for our students. One of the most immediate changes was that students who previously missed school during their menstrual cycle are now able to stay in class without interruption. For example, one student shared with me that, in the past, she would often feel embarrassed to ask for products, which led to her missing important lessons. Now, she feels confident and empowered knowing that the products are readily available to her. \r\n\r\nThis has created a more inclusive environment, where no one has to worry about their health and hygiene while they are learning. The students are also sharing the products with their peers, which fosters a sense of community and care among them. It's beautiful to see how something so simple has such a profound impact on their confidence and sense of belonging.\r\n\r\n**Reaction from the Students**\r\n\r\nThe reaction from the students when they first saw the feminine hygiene products was overwhelmingly positive. Many of them were visibly relieved, and there were lots of smiles and even high-fives exchanged among the students. One of the most touching moments came when a student, who had always felt too shy to speak up, told me, \"I don't have to worry about missing school anymore, and I don't have to feel embarrassed anymore.\" The sense of relief was palpable in the room, and it opened up conversations about the importance of taking care of our health without shame.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these products will continue to support students in both their academic and personal growth. We are currently working on a project that focuses on health and wellness, and having access to these products is allowing students to engage more deeply in discussions about self-care and body awareness. In the coming weeks, students will participate in group discussions and presentations about personal well-being, where they will reflect on their experiences and how access to these products has impacted their school life.\r\n\r\nThis project has not only helped them feel more comfortable but has also opened doors to important conversations about health, equality, and supporting one another. Moving forward, we hope to continue this momentum by expanding the conversation into topics like mental health and self-esteem, which will further equip them with the tools they need to thrive both in and outside the classroom.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for making this possible. Your support has made a tangible difference in the lives of these students, and we are excited to continue to grow and learn together.","fullyFundedDate":1736371605553,"projectUrl":"project/feminine-hygiene-products-for-periods/8923644/","projectTitle":"Feminine Hygiene Products for Periods","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cahue","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8321738_orig.png?crop=990,990,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727355710986","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8321738"},{"teacherId":8321738,"projectId":8923522,"letterContent":"The Impact of Your Generosity: Transforming Our Classroom\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generous support, which has allowed us to enrich our classroom with new resources. These materials have truly made a difference in the way we teach and learn together, and I want to share how they've been used to create meaningful learning experiences for our students.\r\n\r\nHow We Are Using the New Resources\r\nOne of the most exciting ways we've used the new materials is through a classroom project where students explored themes of community and resilience. With the fresh books and reading materials provided, I was able to create a series of activities where students read a variety of texts, then worked in groups to create a \"Resilience Wall\" in our classroom. Each group read a different story that explored overcoming challenges, and they then illustrated their key takeaways and shared personal reflections on how the themes applied to their own lives. The project not only reinforced their reading comprehension but also helped them develop empathy and critical thinking skills. It was wonderful to see them collaborate, discuss their ideas, and express their creativity through the project.\r\n\r\nThe Students' Reaction\r\nWhen the new books and resources first arrived, the excitement in the classroom was palpable! Many students eagerly grabbed their new books, flipping through the pages with wide eyes, and you could feel the buzz of anticipation. For some students who previously struggled with reading, the new materials were a game-changer. They were excited to pick up books that felt accessible, yet challenging in the best ways. Watching their faces light up as they discovered new stories, characters, and worlds was incredibly rewarding. There was a renewed sense of enthusiasm around reading that has lasted throughout the year.\r\n\r\nWhat's Next for Our Students?\r\nNow that we've introduced these new materials, our next steps involve deepening students' connection to the texts they've been reading. For example, we are about to start a unit where students will compare two books from the same genre, analyzing themes, character development, and setting. They will create visual presentations to showcase their findings and discuss how each book approaches the same theme in different ways. This project will allow them to practice their analytical skills and engage in thoughtful discussions. By working in groups, they'll continue building their collaboration and presentation skills. We're excited to see how these activities will help them develop a deeper understanding of the texts and each other.\r\n\r\nOnce again, I want to thank you for helping make all of this possible. Your support has not only transformed our classroom but also inspired a love of learning in each of our students. Together, we are fostering the skills that will carry them forward into their academic journeys and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1732622370730,"projectUrl":"project/kaplan-learning-student-arts-crafts/8923522/","projectTitle":"Kaplan Learning - Student Arts & Crafts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cahue","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8321738_orig.png?crop=990,990,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727355710986","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8321738"},{"teacherId":8321738,"projectId":8895606,"letterContent":"The Impact of Your Generosity: How Our Students Are Thriving with New Books\r\n\r\nThanks to your incredible support, we've been able to introduce a wonderful selection of new books to our classroom, and the impact on our students has been profound. Many of our donors are passionate about reading, just like we are, and we want to share how these new texts are not only enriching our students' lives but also helping them build essential skills.\r\n\r\nNew Skills and Lessons Through Books\r\nThe new books are more than just enjoyable reads; they are opening up new ways of thinking for our students. Through these texts, students are learning to analyze characters, predict plot developments, and make connections between the stories and their own experiences. These skills enhance their comprehension and critical thinking, which are essential for academic success and personal growth. For example, some books introduce themes of resilience and problem-solving, helping students better understand how to overcome challenges in their own lives.\r\n\r\nWhat Does Reading Look Like in Our Classroom?\r\nReading in our classroom has become a dynamic and interactive experience. Students no longer just read in silence; they discuss, debate, and dive deeper into the meaning of each book. Group activities, such as book clubs and storytelling sessions, have encouraged collaborative learning. These new texts have sparked lively discussions, allowing students to share perspectives, ask thoughtful questions, and engage with the material in meaningful ways. We also see students practicing reading aloud, improving their fluency and confidence, while others explore writing their own stories based on the inspiration they've gained from these books.\r\n\r\nStudents Who Are Especially Enjoying the New Books\r\nOne of the most exciting outcomes has been seeing how different students are connecting with the new books. For instance, some of our avid readers have devoured the books, using them as a springboard to explore more complex genres. These students are not just reading—they're excited to share what they've learned and encourage their peers to dive into the books, too.\r\n\r\nOn the other hand, we've also noticed students who previously struggled with reading becoming more engaged and enthusiastic. The choice of texts has given them the confidence to explore books at their own pace, and we're seeing noticeable improvements in their reading abilities. The combination of relatable stories and appealing characters has created a safe space where all students feel welcome to take risks with reading.\r\n\r\nIn particular, we've seen students who were initially reluctant to pick up a book now eagerly participating in reading activities and discussing their favorite parts. One student who once found reading a challenge now reads aloud with enthusiasm, while another has started writing their own stories inspired by the characters and adventures in the books they've read.\r\n\r\nYour donations have made a real difference in creating an environment where students feel excited about learning. Together, we're shaping a future of passionate readers, critical thinkers, and confident learners.","fullyFundedDate":1730473235110,"projectUrl":"project/young-adult-books-for-teenage-literacy/8895606/","projectTitle":"Young Adult Books for Teenage Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cahue","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8321738_orig.png?crop=990,990,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727355710986","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8321738"},{"teacherId":9344208,"projectId":8958698,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the gift of preserved frogs. A few even said the activity got them thinking about careers in medicine or science.\r\n\r\nWhat's more, there was an extra benefit. Thank you so much for your support! This project has exceeded my expectations in terms of student engagement. From the moment we unboxed the materials, my students were hooked. The learning curve for sewing and stitching was steep, but with the support of several teachers—including our incredible art teacher—students embraced the challenge and built their confidence with every stitch. And learned new skills and some picked it up as a new hobby! It was amazing to see them move from uncertainty to skillfulness, taking ownership of their work and supporting one another in the process.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments was watching students sketch and plan their quilt squares. They poured their knowledge of African American history into their designs, thinking deeply about the stories they wanted to tell through fabric and thread. As we transitioned from planning to sewing, the atmosphere in our classroom transformed into something truly special. The sewing and creative sessions became a time of community and reflection—we played music connected to our studies, from jazz to hip-hop, sparking conversations about the cultural significance of each song. Students chatted, shared their ideas, and encouraged one another, turning the project into more than just an assignment; it became a celebration of learning, history, and creativity.\r\n\r\nThis quilt is more than just fabric stitched together—it's a reflection of my students' voices, their creativity, and their connection to history. Seeing their pride when their pieces came together was unforgettable.
