Filled with diverse books that reflect a wide variety of cultures, experiences, family structures, and perspectives, the lounge gives every student the opportunity to see themselves in a story while also learning about the lives of others. These books help us teach important literacy skills such as making connections, identifying themes, analyzing characters, understanding different points of view, and building vocabulary. Beyond academic skills, the books also encourage empathy, curiosity, and meaningful conversations about the world around us.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and engaging experience. Students spend time independently reading books that interest them, participating in partner discussions, and sharing recommendations with classmates. We often gather in our Literacy Lounge for read-alouds, book talks, and small-group discussions where students can dive deeper into stories and practice critical thinking skills. The comfortable and inviting environment has helped transform reading from a task into something students genuinely look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nSome of the most exciting moments have come from students who previously struggled to find books they connected with. When students discover characters who look like them, share similar experiences, or introduce them to new perspectives, their excitement for reading grows tremendously. We've seen reluctant readers become eager readers, asking for extra reading time and enthusiastically sharing books with friends. The Literacy Lounge has not only strengthened literacy skills but has also helped create a classroom community where every student feels seen, valued, and inspired to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1772037562286,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-lounge/10066460/","projectTitle":"Literacy Lounge","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fout","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10221781_orig.jpg?crop=1500,1500,x0,y300&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756067012276","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10221781"},{"teacherId":10065360,"projectId":10067025,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our student-led literacy initiative. Because of your kindness, our vision of building a shared, school-wide library and creating meaningful reading experiences across grade levels has become a reality.\r\n\r\nYour donation is doing so much more than putting books into students' hands—it is helping build relationships. Our older students have embraced their roles as mentors and role models, taking pride in reading with and supporting our K–3 learners. These moments have created a warm, welcoming environment where younger students feel encouraged, confident, and excited about reading.\r\n\r\nWe are already seeing the impact. Students are forming new connections, growing in confidence, and developing a stronger sense of belonging within our school community. The library you helped create is not just a collection of books—it is a space filled with conversation, laughter, learning, and connection.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your support has shown our students the power of generosity and community. They are learning firsthand what it means to give back, support one another, and make a difference.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for helping us create something truly special. The materials have also encouraged collaboration, allowing students to foster new relationships within their small groups as they learn from and support one another.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the erasable manipulatives you provided have made a significant impact on how students interact with content.
