Instantly, two classmates sat beside him, offering encouragement and reminding him he wasn't alone. That moment captured exactly what these tools were meant to do: give students the language and confidence to express themselves, while strengthening the chosen family they've built together.\r\n\r\nThe calming tools have also made a huge difference. The cuddle ball and weighted shoulder wrap are now part of our \"reset routine.\" When students feel overwhelmed, they head to our calming corner, settle into the floor seat, and choose a tool that helps them breathe and reset. I've watched students independently advocate for their emotional needs—something some of them struggled with before—because they now have accessible, comforting supports right at their fingertips.\r\n\r\nThe diverse plushies have quickly become student favorites. They've turned into \"care buddies,\" and students use them to role-play problem-solving or to comfort a friend who's having a tough moment. Seeing students gravitate toward dolls that reflect their identities has created a deeper sense of belonging and pride.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the room filled with excitement. Students passed around the plushies, tested every fidget, and immediately started sharing stories from home connected to the books. Their reactions made it clear how much representation, comfort, and emotional tools matter to them.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using these resources to guide small-group lessons on empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. Students will practice identifying emotions in stories, creating strategies for self-regulation, and supporting peers with positive language.\r\n\r\nYour kindness didn't just provide materials—it strengthened a classroom family built on community, belonging, and care. Each of the three classes have unique students and needs. The 4th grade gen ed students have been learning about energy and electricity and have loved creating and simple electrical systems. In the photos, you can see the students collaborating to build a solar fans!\r\n\r\nThe 4th and 5th grade split class is composed of gifted, migrant, and special ed students. It is a bilingual class that works best in small groups allowing us to target specific skills needed to collaborate in American schools. Most of the items requested in this project have been designed to help this particular group get the background information needed for comprehension of complex topics. \r\n\r\nThe 5th grade group is studying patterns of the sky and have truly benefited from the photos and supplies to understand the wide expanse of our solar system and surrounding galaxies. Our new learning around black holes has been inspiring. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Battle of the Books participants improved their reading skills as well as honed their discussion techniques through these thought provoking and diverse books.\r\nYou also donated to my specific classroom by providing high interest graphic novels, sports books, and DIY \"scratch off\" bookmarks. Students in 4th grade love the graphic novel series called, Amulet, and these books have been checked out continuously since arrival. The addition of our new soccer books spurred us to write a class set of soccer rules.
