Thanks to your generosity, we were finally able to build the greenhouse in our school garden, tucked right behind the muscadine grapevine. The students were absolutely ecstatic when they first saw it—they couldn't believe we now have a space where they can propagate and grow plants all year long.\r\n\r\nThe greenhouse sits on a sturdy wooden base (like a deck), and the students love spending time in it. It's just the right size for them, and we've already added a rain barrel so they can learn how to collect and use rainwater to care for their plants. They're already imagining all the growing projects they'll be able to do in every season!\r\n\r\nOur next step is to build shelves inside the greenhouse. We'll be repurposing pallets to create them, which gives us the chance to teach students about sustainability while also expanding the greenhouse's growing space. We're also planning to add a pathway and ramp to make it more accessible for all of our students.\r\n\r\nThis project has already sparked so much joy and curiosity. The greenhouse is going to be a hands-on classroom where students learn about science, sustainability, and healthy food—and we can't thank you enough for helping make it possible.","fullyFundedDate":1744830655453,"projectUrl":"project/growing-minds-a-greenhouse-for-our-gar/9220527/","projectTitle":"Growing Minds: a Greenhouse for Our Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2769276_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y120&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704808840172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2769276"},{"teacherId":2769276,"projectId":9206866,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, Step Right Up: Circus Dramatic Play for Learning! Your donation brought so much joy and meaningful learning to our self-contained special education classroom. When the students first saw the colorful costumes, circus train, and carnival-themed games, their faces lit up with excitement. It was heartwarming to see them eagerly engage in imaginative play, especially students who don't always gravitate toward pretend play. The circus theme gave them a safe, fun space to explore new roles, communicate with peers, and develop important social and motor skills.\r\n\r\nWe used the materials to support a science unit on how things move, and the results were incredible. The students experimented with motion by rolling balls through carnival games, spinning toys, and even acting out how different circus acts move. Dressing up like clowns or animal trainers gave them the confidence to participate and communicate in ways that felt natural and exciting. Your support didn't just fund supplies—it helped our students shine in ways we rarely get to see. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1743009103849,"projectUrl":"project/step-right-up-circus-dramatic-play-for/9206866/","projectTitle":"Step Right Up! This new resource is not just a fun addition; it has become a dynamic tool for teaching financial literacy in an engaging and hands-on way. Students are eager to participate, learn, and apply mathematical concepts in a real-world setting.\r\n\r\nOne specific project we have implemented is our financial literacy rewards system. Students earn coins by completing assignments, exhibiting positive behavior, and participating actively in classroom discussions. These coins can then be used to purchase items from the vending machine. This system has created a sense of motivation and accountability, as students are now more driven than ever to complete their work and earn their rewards.\r\n\r\nWhen the vending machine first arrived, the reaction from the students was priceless. Their eyes lit up with excitement as they saw the colorful array of items inside. The anticipation of earning coins and being able to make their own purchasing decisions made the experience even more thrilling. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and engagement, knowing that this experience was teaching them valuable life skills.\r\n\r\nOverall, this vending machine has been a game-changer in our classroom. It has sparked enthusiasm for learning, created a sense of purpose in completing work, and provided a meaningful way to teach financial literacy. Our students are not only mastering math concepts but also developing critical life skills that will serve them well in the future. We are incredibly grateful for this resource and look forward to continuing to build upon this engaging and educational experience.","fullyFundedDate":1729536012562,"projectUrl":"project/financial-literacy-and-positive-behavior/8875516/","projectTitle":"Financial Literacy and Positive Behavior With a Classroom Vending Machine","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2769276_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y120&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704808840172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2769276"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20776","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":885,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":11,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.4,"schoolId":20776,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Holly Grove Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Holly Grove Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wake-county-public-school-system/holly-grove-elementary/20776"}
