Already, we have learned about sorting animals into their taxonomic classifications through an activity involving various salty and sweet snack foods. Students were tasked with sorting the foods into smaller and smaller categories based on physical characteristics until there was only a single food in each category. This led to a better understanding of how to look at physical characteristics of animals as we work towards classifying them into their various genus and species types. \r\n\r\nThe hand soap has led my Vet Science students to the importance of proper handwashing procedures when we used a black light to evaluate the cleanliness of their hands and opened it up to the broader discussion about antiseptic handwashing techniques when scrubbing in for surgery if they choose to go down the path of training to be a Veterinary Technician.\r\n\r\nThe plates and bowls, various seasonings, and toothpicks are going to be used to simulate some of the various FFA contests that students are able to participate in in the spring. It will give them a hands on experience with ten different events modified to fit into one class period. This will hopefully generate more interest in FFA and help our program grow.\r\n\r\nThere were numerous other small items funded through your generosity, but without your help, I would not be able to provide my students with the hands on experiences needed to generate and grow a love for agriculture!
