I had asked for the moon and it was handed to me! I had a reality check when I first visited the space I would be teaching in. I needed to equip it with literally everything but the kitchen sink (and three countertops and two stoves). Equipping an entire kitchen, from scratch, for groups of 12 or more to cook simultaneously seemed huge!\r\n \"Don't worry,\" a colleague said, \"Donors Choose will make it possible.\"\r\n So I started dreaming... YOU then supported our dreams. We are all seeing dreams come true because of the generosity with which you showed your enthusiasm for this wild idea.\r\n High School and Junior High students are learning to flip omelets, to read recipes, to think about the nutritional aspects, and so much more. The focus, and the grins on their faces when they taste something they made themselves says it all. Even those who already have kitchen experience are learning valuable lessons, like sharing and leadership. They're learning to clean up after themselves and to think ahead; they're learning to cooperate and divide up tasks, they're learning about safety and hygiene, too. Most importantly, they're learning to Cook: measuring, cutting, mixing, tasting, and thinking about the whole process. \r\n So, Thank YOU.\r\n Thank you for all your help in bringing this life skill to these eager students to better prepare them for the independence they yearn for and for the possibility of pursuing Culinary Arts careers. It has transformed our classroom into a truly inclusive space where all students are able to learn. \r\n\r\nWhen we first started receiving our packages, my students' faces lit up like it was Christmas morning. They were beyond excited to start helping me open the packages and organize our new classroom materials. While everything was a hug hit, the favorites for my younger students are the new bean bags and wobble stools. They love to be able to have flexible seating options during our carpet learning time. My older students loved the snacks. Junior High and High School boys were excited to come to my class and get some extra fuel for their brains before we dived into learning. \r\n\r\nThank you all for making my classroom a more inclusive and overall happy room.
