Unpacking the large Barrier, measuring 34 sq. ft. and 26 inches tall, it immediately went up! As you can see in the accompanying pictures, we were able to fully enclose the band area where instruments are kept. \r\nThese not only keep the instruments safe, but to our wandering students, it keeps them safe so they don't pull one down. The visual barrier you can see through has deterred even the most curious student! \r\n\r\nWe also put in place the new surge bars that keep little fingers safe. We have a work order to install the covers, but I anticipate that to happen before the end of this year. \r\n\r\nWhen we upacked all the glue guns, our students were very excited to know, that with some supervision, they would get to use in the future. I am planning some valentines activities as I write! One of the best things from this project was receiving the mic packs for teacher use. After singing repeatedly, hour after hour, our voices get hoarse! The mics have been invaluable in protecting our voices. \r\nAlso, these mics aide in student understanding. For students, it is easier to hear directions, melodies, and dynamics (the loud and soft!). This has also been a good tool for our 2nd language learners as well, as they can better understand our modeling of clear diction. \r\n\r\nIn addition to the teacher mics, we were able to get 2 student hand held wireless microphones that go with the boom box. These are great for echo singing and solo singing. Students are more happy to join in with singing. With the JBL boombox, the beat is also kept as the colors in the front rotate. \r\nPictures attached show students using the mics, and also moving to the beat that the JBL speaker provides. They old ones were literally falling apart. When I first came to this district, they were literally throwing out all the wind and string instruments. This came to my attention and I went down to the warehouse to see this for myself. I bargained and pleaded and the warehouse manager said I could take them. The cases were in horrible condition, but inside were workable and fixable instruments. So at that point, I fixed whatever I could and my students started using them. That was over 25 years ago, and they are ALL still going strong! \r\n\r\nYour donation enabled my students to have lighter cases that are not falling apart, and that look so professional! It has renewed their interest to come to practice more as well, and to transport these instruments back and forth from home to school. \r\nAs you can see by our pictures, the students loved opening the big boxes and couldn't wait to put their instruments in the new cases! I am able to hook up my phone streaming music directly to the unit. Some of the coolest features the students love is 1) the hand held microphone. Students are able to solo sing responses to my echoes and hear their own voice amplified. This makes each class a little more interesting. 2) The swirly color filled beat keeper. As the music plays, a colorful circle appears keeping the beat. This helps students stay on track during movement activities. I didn't even realize this was happening until a student pointed it out! (They notice EVERYTHING!) \r\n\r\nThis technology really helps keep focus, especially for my special education older students, and upper grade students. It's portability has been awesome to take outside too!
