Over the past few months, they have associated books with different core words. This has kept them engaged and excited to read! We have worked on the words \"no, stop, go, more, can,\" and \"do.\" Having these books readily available for students to reference throughout the week has encouraged literacy and the use of core words outside of speech time. \r\n\r\nLast week, students reviewed their core words by picking a book that was donated and \"helping\" me read it to the group. They did this by selecting the core word on their communication device each time it appeared in the book. This was a great way to practice reviewing our skills through literacy! This would not have been possible without your generous donation. \r\n\r\nOut of the 5 students that I have been using this program with, 3 of the students have started creating their own sentences after reading the book multiple times and practicing accessing their core words. For these 3 students, it is the first time they have created their own sentences before. This project has unlocked so much potential! I can't wait to continue using these books for years to come to build on language and literacy skills across the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1756843111406,"projectUrl":"project/teaching-core-words/9664486/","projectTitle":"Teaching Core Words","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Culross","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10232383_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756498112478","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10232383"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_79117","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":391,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":49,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.9,"schoolId":79117,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hillside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hillside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nebraska/westside-community-school-district-66/hillside-elementary-school/79117"}
