With fresh notebooks, pencils, folders, and other essentials, we've been able to start our lessons smoothly without interruptions or students feeling unprepared. One moment that stood out was during a writing activity—every student had their own materials ready to go, and instead of waiting or sharing, they were able to dive right in and focus on expressing their ideas. That sense of readiness has helped build both confidence and independence.\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, students were genuinely excited. Something as simple as having brand-new materials created a sense of pride and ownership. They carefully organized their folders, sharpened their pencils, and couldn't wait to use everything. It may seem small, but having their own supplies made students feel valued and prepared, which immediately translated into better focus and engagement during lessons.\r\nMoving forward, these supplies will continue to support our daily learning across all subjects. Students will use their materials for writing, problem-solving, and organizing their work as we move into new units and projects. Because their basic needs are met, we can spend more time on meaningful instruction and deeper learning experiences. Your support has helped create a classroom environment where students are ready to learn, participate, and succeed every day.","fullyFundedDate":1740585862195,"projectUrl":"project/basic-supplies-needed-please/9125332/","projectTitle":"Basic Supplies Needed Please","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Day","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6448822_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740165155665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6448822"},{"teacherId":6448822,"projectId":9198139,"letterContent":"Our class has been fully immersed in a hands-on chicken hatching project, and the materials you provided—especially the incubator—have completely transformed the experience. Students have been monitoring temperature and humidity daily, turning eggs, and tracking development like real scientists.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments was when we candled the eggs and students saw movement for the first time. The room went completely silent, followed by a wave of excitement as they realized there was a living chick inside. It turned a science standard into something real and meaningful.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies arrived, the excitement was immediate. Many students had never seen an incubator before, and they were full of questions right away. Setting it up together gave them ownership of the project from the start.\r\n\r\nOnce the chicks began to hatch, the reaction was incredible—students were amazed, asking thoughtful questions, and even our quieter students became fully engaged. It created a shared classroom experience that brought everyone together.\r\nNow that our chicks have hatched, students are transitioning into learning how to responsibly care for them using the coop, feeders, and waterers you helped provide. We are also connecting this experience to our science standards by exploring life cycles, animal needs, and how humans impact living things.\r\n\r\nStudents will reflect on the full process—from incubation to care—and apply what they've learned through writing, discussion, and observation. This project has sparked curiosity that will carry into future lessons, especially as we begin exploring ecosystems and responsibility for living organisms.\r\nThank you for making this experience possible. This wasn't just a project—it was something students will remember for years. Your generosity brought learning to life in a way that simply wouldn't have been possible otherwise.","fullyFundedDate":1752929247840,"projectUrl":"project/bring-life-science-to-life/9198139/","projectTitle":"Bring Life Science to Life!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Day","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6448822_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740165155665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6448822"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35436","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":747,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":37,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":35436,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Highlands Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Highlands Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/kennewick-school-district-17/highlands-middle-school/35436"}
