Students didn't just learn that light travels in waves with different frequencies—they discovered how those frequencies are the key to unlocking cosmic mysteries. By studying spectral lines, they could see how astronomers detect the composition of stars and galaxies, and how shifts in those lines (the Doppler effect) reveal motion—whether objects are moving toward or away from us. This led to the profound realization that the universe itself is expanding.\r\n\r\nThe experience brought an incredibly complex, almost abstract concept down to earth. Instead of only hearing that \"scientists know the universe is expanding,\" students practiced the same method astronomers use, connecting data to evidence. This gave them a rare opportunity to see how science builds knowledge, not just what science says. That taste of authentic discovery—of standing, even briefly, in a scientist's shoes—helped them appreciate that science is not just a collection of facts, but a process of questioning, testing, and uncovering truth about the world and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1701870602709,"projectUrl":"project/wavelab-an-enlightened-soundscape/8023310/","projectTitle":"WaveLab: an enLightened Soundscape","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brock","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1057241_orig.jpg?crop=810,810,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588168448437","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1057241"},{"teacherId":1057241,"projectId":7574205,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our students were finally able to dive deep—literally—into the microscopic world.
