One of my kiddos was overjoyed to find a Reese's Puffs cereal bar which is his favorite. \r\n\r\nSnack time comes at the last block of the day—Reading Intervention—where students practice phonics skills on Lexia or read a book of their choice from our classroom library. After a long day, the snacks I'm able to provide make it possible for my students to finish the day strong and take full advantage of this time dedicated to improving their reading skills. Most of my students are not yet reading at a 3rd grade level, so Reading Intervention is a crucial part of our school's strategy to narrow the educational achievement gap.\r\n\r\nRight now in ELA, we are wrapping up a unit about the importance of reading and education in which we learned about students who overcame educational challenges in Colombia, Chad, and Afghanistan.
