These resources are a wonderful way to supplement our learning in science and social studies while strengthening students' reading skills. We use them during small groups, whole-class lessons, and centers, making your gift a meaningful part of our learning.\r\n\r\nOne resource I especially appreciated was the article and video about September 11. I always struggle with how to teach such a difficult topic to fourth graders in a thoughtful, age-appropriate way. By focusing on heroes, Scholastic News helped me introduce this important part of our history while highlighting courage, kindness, and the ways people help one another.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students more opportunities to read, ask questions, and learn about the world around them. Your generosity has given my students access to engaging reading materials that help them grow as readers and discover more about the world around them. These magazines have become a valuable part of our learning, and I am grateful for the opportunities you have made possible. Your support means more than simply putting reading materials into students' hands. It gives them opportunities to explore new topics, ask questions, share ideas, and experience the excitement of learning something new.\r\nMy students have been especially engaged in the articles. The interesting topics, colorful photographs, and accessible information draw them into their reading and give them a reason to want to learn more. It is wonderful to see students become curious about a topic and eager to discuss what they have read. That enthusiasm helps make our reading lessons meaningful because students are practicing essential skills while exploring subjects that capture their attention. The articles also provide opportunities for students to make connections to their own lives and build their understanding of people, places, and ideas beyond our classroom.\r\nWe have been using the magazines to practice identifying the main idea and supporting details. Students work on determining what an article is mostly about and finding the information that supports that central idea. Having engaging nonfiction texts makes this practice more purposeful. Students can return to the article, examine the details, and explain their thinking using evidence from what they have read. These experiences help them become more thoughtful readers and strengthen skills they will use across many subjects. The magazines give us a shared text for discussion while also allowing students to practice reading and thinking independently.\r\nThe articles have also been a wonderful resource for vocabulary development. As students encounter unfamiliar words, we practice using context clues to figure out their meanings. We look closely at the surrounding sentences and discuss how the information in the article can help us understand a new word. This gives students practice with a strategy they can use whenever they read. The vocabulary slides are another valuable part of the resource. They help me introduce new words before we begin an article, giving students a foundation for understanding the text and helping them feel more confident as they read.\r\nOne of my students' favorite features is the videos that help build background knowledge before reading. They love watching these videos, and the information helps prepare them for the article that follows. Seeing a topic brought to life helps students connect with the material and gives us a starting point for questions and conversation. Together, the videos, vocabulary slides, and articles create several ways for students to access and understand a topic. These resources help me support different learning needs while keeping students interested and involved.\r\nI use the magazines in so many ways, including whole-class instruction and small-group learning. During whole-class lessons, they give us opportunities to read together, model reading strategies, and share our thinking. In small groups, I can provide more focused support, guide discussions, and help students practice the skills they need. This flexibility makes your donation especially valuable because the magazines support learning throughout our classroom in many different ways.\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and their education. Your kindness has helped bring engaging nonfiction, meaningful skill practice, and exciting learning opportunities into our classroom. I appreciate your willingness to support young readers and help provide resources that make learning come alive. Please know that your donation is being used with care and gratitude, and it is making a difference in our daily learning.","fullyFundedDate":1778002556309,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-readers-through-scholastic-maga/10186409/","projectTitle":"Engaging Readers Through Scholastic Magazines!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Allan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7413794_orig.jpg?crop=434,434,x0,y23&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715202025236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7413794"},{"teacherId":7413794,"projectId":9749097,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our STEM materials grant. The materials have truly sparked curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nAs part of our rock and mineral unit, students had an absolute blast cracking open the geodes. Seeing their excitement as they made discoveries firsthand reinforced how powerful hands-on learning can be. These experiences have helped bring science to life in a meaningful and memorable way.\r\n\r\nI am excited to continue using the remaining materials throughout the rest of the school year.
