The excitement was incredible—students were absolutely overjoyed when they walked in and saw the new learning space!\r\n\r\nThe addition of standing desks, stools, and rocking chairs has transformed the classroom environment. Students now have the freedom to choose where and how they learn best—whether standing and working, sitting on stools, moving desks to work independently, or clustering together for group projects. The flexibility has encouraged greater collaboration, focus, and comfort.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, our students love the movement that these options provide. The rocking chairs and adjustable desks allow them to stay engaged and energized throughout the day. It's amazing to see how these changes have fostered both productivity and joy in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making such a meaningful difference in our students' daily learning experience. Your generosity has created a space that truly supports creativity, collaboration, and growth.","fullyFundedDate":1755687699626,"projectUrl":"project/take-a-stand-for-student-success/9417966/","projectTitle":"Take a Stand for Student Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robertson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5157216_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1656036810323","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5157216"},{"teacherId":7886257,"projectId":8419210,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for sponsoring this project. The kids have so enjoyed all the new games and activities when there are volunteers to play with them! Two days per week this area is set up with several activities for students to build, design, play, and interact. The activities change every 4-6 weeks, depending on how often we can make sure all students get to participate.\r\n We started in October with some of our new activities mixed in with older ones. The new Prehistoric Life puzzle, balance stones, Chinese checkers, and Life on Earth memory game were our first starters. The kids absolutely loved having Chinese checkers back (since the marbles had run away - and the new set has pegs!) and the littles especially enjoyed the matching. All the kids enjoyed the smaller (60 piece) puzzles because they could finish them. We used one of the dice trays to keep the Rush Hour cars in one place.\r\n Games were changed after Thanksgiving. This round of newbie activities included the Mini-Squigs, color cube sudoku, backgammon. Backgammon is pretty new, and we definitely need a knowledgeable volunteer to help the kids, but the kinder and firsties love the Squigs - the window is the most popular (and viable) surface. The second and third graders have enjoyed the color cube sudoku, once they realized it wasn't a modified Rubik's Cube. \r\n Looking ahead to January, we were thinking magnets and space themed activities, like the Mission in Space puzzle, magnetic 3-D puzzle, and the Pixio creation station. Throughout the rest of the year and into the future, we will continue to offer our students other engaging activities that you helped bring to Hermitage. Thank you so very much for your consideration and generosity for this student opportunity!","fullyFundedDate":1726869216007,"projectUrl":"project/play-the-brains-favorite-way-to-learn/8419210/","projectTitle":"Play: The Brain's Favorite Way To Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dyson-Roby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7886257_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716384467874","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7886257"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35033","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":552,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":44,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.9,"schoolId":35033,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hermitage Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hermitage Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/virginia-beach-city-public-schools/hermitage-elementary-school/35033"}
