We've launched several group-based activities, including CLOSE reading circles where students dive deeply into nonfiction texts together, annotating and discussing meaning side-by-side. We also started a group writing project where teams of students are co-authoring informational pieces based on research topics they chose together. One memorable moment was during our first CLOSE reading session around the new tables—students naturally leaned in, shared ideas eagerly, and built off each other's thinking in a way that wasn't possible with the old individual desks. It has completely energized their discussions and deepened their understanding.\r\n\r\nThe students were absolutely thrilled when they walked into the classroom and saw the new tables set up! Their faces lit up with excitement, and you could hear a chorus of \"Wow!\" and \"This is so cool!\" ripple across the room. Many students immediately started imagining how much easier and more fun it would be to work together. They could instantly tell that the space felt more open, welcoming, and connected. The shift from rows of separate desks to clusters of collaborative tables made them feel like part of a real team.\r\n\r\nThanks to this generous donation, we are moving forward with even more collaborative projects. Right now, students are preparing for a cross-curricular project where they will research an important topic, conduct CLOSE reading across multiple sources, and then create a shared group presentation. The tables make it so easy for them to brainstorm, plan, and revise together! We are also starting a \"Collaboration Challenge\" where teams set learning goals and track their teamwork progress throughout the project. We are so incredibly grateful to our donors for making this possible—your support has opened new doors for deeper learning, creativity, and community in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1742960131585,"projectUrl":"project/building-bridges-tables-for-teamwork-/9205686/","projectTitle":"Building Bridges: Tables for Teamwork & Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coenen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1894294_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1475121752307","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-coenen"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_103679","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":796,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"20.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.6,"schoolId":103679,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Herk Bouris Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Herk Bouris Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/menifee-union-school-district/herk-bouris-elementary/103679"}
