They love going to choose a treasure after they have worked hard & are feeling a great sense of accomplishment and pride in themselves!!\r\n\r\nOur next step is for the students to nominate each other for a treasure. As a school counselor, books are very often the way that I begin connecting with students. When students see themselves in books, they understand they are not alone when dealing with social emotional issues that come their way.\r\n\r\nTo start this year, I have shared many of the books with my students. One in particular that we read featured a good-natured shark that was a little too rambunctious starting his new school year, but learned things like respect and self-control so that he could do his best learning. This was a perfect story to share with my younger students who sometimes need a little reminder about these things, as well.\r\n\r\nI can't wait to continue to share other stories with my students throughout the year. This grant is making a difference in the social-emotional well being of my students, and in turn, helping our world be just a little bit better each day.","fullyFundedDate":1744290669792,"projectUrl":"project/pages-of-purpose-books-for-social-emoti/9099699/","projectTitle":"Pages of Purpose: Books for Social Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McLellan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9916779_orig.jpg?crop=240,240,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738782130469","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9916779"},{"teacherId":9017687,"projectId":9195717,"letterContent":"My students are enjoying the new dry erase markers & erasers so much! The welcoming, zen environment created by the decorations immediately made the space feel calm and inviting, which was especially important as they adjusted to a brand-new school. Many students commented that it felt \"peaceful\" and \"like home,\" and I could see their comfort level rise right away.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new setup as part of our daily lessons by creating a calm corner for reflection and group discussions, which has helped students stay engaged and focused. One specific moment that stood out was during a math small-group activity—students mentioned how nice it felt to work together in a space that looked \"special\" and \"organized.\"\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be building on this positive environment by starting collaborative projects where students design anchor charts and add to our classroom displays. This will allow them to take ownership of the space while also reinforcing what we're learning academically. The decorations have truly set the tone for a fresh, focused start to the year.","fullyFundedDate":1747183289812,"projectUrl":"project/growing-minds-a-calm-start-with-succule/9279007/","projectTitle":"Growing Minds: A Calm Start with Succulent Vibes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Arnold","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8015284_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x320,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1658516540046","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8015284"},{"teacherId":9887906,"projectId":9032788,"letterContent":"When my students first saw the new bookshelf filled with their books, they immediately ran over to explore. Having their reading materials organized and easy to reach has made such a difference in our classroom. Now, students proudly take responsibility for choosing their own books and returning them neatly to the shelf. The binders have also been a wonderful addition—they are being used to keep student work organized, which helps them track their progress and celebrate how much they are learning.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic shelves and writing paper have quickly become favorites during lessons. Students love coming up to the board, moving materials around, and writing their ideas on the magnetic paper. This small change has made whole-group lessons much more interactive, and it gives every student a chance to contribute to our discussions. One special moment was when a shy student confidently walked up to the board to share their answer for the first time—something that happened because they were so excited to use the new magnetic paper.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will continue to support our reading, writing, and classroom organization every single day.
