The book we read, \"An Invisible Thread\" by Laura Schroff, is a story of friendship that our students are STILL talking about. In the story, eleven year old Maurice learns about trust, family, and the power of dreams through his friendship with Laura. My students were in awe of how a small act of kindness can lead to such wonderful things.\r\n\r\nOne of my lunch club members sent me an email in between meetings. She wrote:\r\n\"I started [the book], and once I started reading I couldn't stop. But reading this book made me feel so spoiled compared to Maurice's life begging for spare change on the streets of New York. I was eating my meal the other night and as I was eating I was reading it and then it hit me. Some people have way harder lives than we think.\"\r\n\r\nThank you for the gift of conversation and consideration. They had to speak to community partners and learn about the proper way to get permission when placing things in a public space! The reading that will happen, because of these students project will also help many many people hopefully for years! Our next step is to place more books at the Children's hospital near our school.
