From the moment my students walked in and saw the brand-new kitchen set, their faces lit up with pure excitement. Many of my students have never had access to dramatic-play materials like this, so their joy, curiosity, and eagerness to explore were priceless. They immediately began opening cabinets, organizing the pretend food, and sharing the pots and pans—showing natural teamwork, communication, and creativity. The kitchen instantly became the heart of our classroom, inviting every student to imagine, collaborate, and engage in purposeful play.\r\n\r\nWe are using these materials daily to support language development, social-emotional learning, and foundational literacy skills. Students plan out their \"meals,\" write simple menus, practice taking turns, and use full sentences to describe what they are creating—all key skills in kindergarten. The kitchen has also become a safe space for students to model real-life routines, practice problem-solving, and build confidence while engaging in cooperative play. Every day, I witness students initiating conversations, inviting others to join, and retelling the stories they create—skills directly connected to kindergarten ELA standards.\r\n\r\nThis project has transformed our classroom into a more joyful and inclusive environment. Students who are usually shy or hesitant have found their voice through play. Those who struggle academically are thriving during this hands-on, imaginative time. The kitchen encourages independence, builds vocabulary, and strengthens friendships. Thanks to your generosity, my students are not just playing—they are learning, connecting, and growing in ways that will support them far beyond kindergarten. We are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1761051952901,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-play-a-real-life-class/9554795/","projectTitle":"Learning Through Play: A Real-Life Classroom Kitchen","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stansell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9247270_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721480091132","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9247270"},{"teacherId":9247270,"projectId":9337677,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for supporting our Clean and Ready to Learn! project. Something as simple as a clean, organized classroom has given them a greater sense of pride and ownership in their learning space.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has not only provided tangible resources but has also sent a powerful message to my students—that their education matters and that there are people who believe in them.
