Your generosity gave my students the chance to step outside of traditional math lessons and connect their learning to the natural world. Even though the unit was shorter than we originally planned, the time we had with the tools was meaningful. Students were able to practice measuring trees, estimating heights, and thinking about how math applies to environmental studies. For many of them, this was the first time they had used professional tools in a hands‑on way, and it sparked curiosity about how math connects to science and careers beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation was clear in the way students responded. They were excited to get outside, to work in teams, and to apply formulas in real situations rather than just on paper. The tools made the experience feel authentic, and students commented on how different it felt to measure something real instead of just solving a problem in a book. Even though we had to wrap up earlier than expected, the activities we completed gave students a sense of accomplishment and showed them that math is not just abstract—it is practical and useful in understanding the world around them.\r\n\r\nI am grateful for the opportunity your support created. The measuring tools will continue to be part of our classroom resources, and I look forward to using them again in future units. Thank you for helping my students see math in action and for giving them experiences that make learning more engaging and memorable.","fullyFundedDate":1709094706435,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-forestry-trig/8143552/","projectTitle":"Tools for Forestry Trig","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kalu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8974117"},{"teacherId":8974117,"projectId":8146316,"letterContent":"I want to thank you for supporting my Bridge to College Math class with the donation of the card game Charty Party. Your generosity allowed me to bring something new and creative into the classroom, and while the game was not a daily centerpiece of instruction, it had a noticeable impact when used as an intermittent activity. For seniors in an urban Seattle high school, many of whom are preparing for graduation and the transition to college or careers, keeping motivation high can be a challenge. The game provided a refreshing break from traditional problem sets and lectures, and it gave students a chance to interact with charts and data in a playful, low‑pressure way.\r\n\r\nWhen we introduced Charty Party, students were curious and engaged. The humor built into the game helped lower stress levels, and the charts sparked conversations about how data can be interpreted in different ways. For a class where English is not the first language for many students, the visual nature of the charts made the activity more accessible. Students who might hesitate to speak up during a math lesson were more willing to participate when the context was a game. They laughed, debated, and explained their choices to one another, which strengthened both their confidence and their communication skills. While the game did not replace core instruction, it served as a valuable supplement that encouraged students to see math as something connected to real life and even fun.\r\n\r\nThe success of Charty Party was moderate, but meaningful. Some students embraced it fully, while others were more reserved. What stood out was how the game worked best as an occasional activity—something to break up longer units or to re‑energize the class before tackling more challenging material. In those moments, the game helped build community and reminded students that math is not only about formulas and tests, but also about interpretation, creativity, and perspective. Seniors who are often focused on graduation requirements appreciated the chance to interact with math in a different format, and several commented that the charts made them think about data in ways they hadn't before.","fullyFundedDate":1708626630646,"projectUrl":"project/game-to-help-students-read-graphs-critic/8146316/","projectTitle":"Game to Help Students Read Graphs Critically","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kalu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8974117"},{"teacherId":8974117,"projectId":7211267,"letterContent":"When I think about the difference your snack donations have made in my classroom, I see more than just food. I see energy, focus, and motivation. Many of my students come to school from homes where resources are limited, and hunger is a daily challenge. For 60% of them, English is not their first language, which makes learning even more demanding. Having snacks available during the day gives them the fuel they need to stay engaged and the reassurance that someone cares about their success. I've noticed that when students know they will have something to eat, they are more willing to participate in lessons, ask questions, and keep trying even when the material feels difficult. The snacks have become a bridge between meeting basic needs and unlocking academic effort.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes beyond academics. Snack time has created moments of community and inclusion. Students who might otherwise feel embarrassed about not having food are able to share in the same experience as their peers. This reduces stigma and builds confidence. I've seen students relax, laugh, and connect with one another during these breaks, which helps them return to class ready to learn. In a setting where poverty and language barriers can make school feel overwhelming, the consistency of snacks has given my students something reliable to count on. It shows them that their community supports them and believes in their future. Your donations have turned simple granola bars and fruit into symbols of care, encouragement, and possibility.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are not only nourished but also motivated. They are more focused, more willing to take risks in learning, and more confident in their ability to succeed. Because of your generosity, my students now have access to tools that allow them to turn their ideas into tangible products. Whether they're creating custom apparel, posters, or personalized merchandise, this technology has empowered them to explore design, entrepreneurship, and branding in ways that feel exciting and real.\r\n\r\nFor many students, this is their first time using professional-level printing and heat press equipment. They're learning how to design for production, manage inventory, and think critically about what makes a product marketable. The most thrilling part for them is seeing their own artwork and ideas come to life—something that once lived on a screen is now something they can hold, wear, or sell. This hands-on learning builds confidence, pride, and valuable career skills in areas like marketing, graphic design, and business management.\r\n\r\nOne student who was often shy and hesitant to participate has now found a spark through this project. She designed a hoodie with a message of cultural pride and is now leading a small team to create a line of student-designed merchandise for our school. The excitement in the room when the equipment arrived was overwhelming—students couldn't wait to start working again.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who had been struggling to stay engaged after the theft, immediately stepped up to lead a new project using the equipment you helped fund. We used it just this past month as students were finishing projects explaining all the proteins and ions involved in the ways that neurons work. I wanted to be sure to build up understanding enough so that students would understand what the electronic display meant when they were hooking the electrodes up to their muscles or to their heads to look at nerves firing. \r\n\r\nThe box allowed them to ask questions and really investigate by trying different things to see how it affected their nerves firing. For instance, students hooked the electrodes up to their triceps, used the box, then wanted to try putting strain on their muscles, so they watched the nerve output with push-ups and with arm wrestling. They were talking with each other about how to test their nerves firing more, and how they might be able to see it. They also tried hooking the electrodes up to their heads to see how it might affect nerves firing in brain and asked each other to think about a specific type of music, tried to scare each other to see what would happen, or tried to see what happened when they had to calculate math problems. This box really allows my students to apply the electrical potential they learned a out with ions moving in and out of their nerves and really see it!\r\n\r\nI will be using this box in years to come, and am so grateful that you gave my students this year, and in many future years, the opportunity to see and experiment with something that can be a lot more abstract.
