The punching bag and gloves were an immediate favorite, giving students a safe and appropriate way to release frustration and excess energy. The vibrating pillow also took students by surprise, and they were very excited when it began vibrating and playing music. This will be a wonderful resource for students with sensory needs, providing another tool to help them calm and regulate their bodies and emotions. The new rug for our Conversation Corner and calming space is incredibly soft and was just what we needed to make the area feel more comfortable, welcoming, and peaceful for students.\r\n\r\nWe will soon be starting small groups for students who are working on strengthening their emotional regulation skills, and we are very excited to incorporate the Big Life Journals we received into these groups. Our behavior support specialist was so impressed with the journals that he is planning to purchase additional copies for students. We are also looking forward to offering the air-dry clay as another hands-on, creative activity students can use while spending time in the Hawks Nest. These materials will give students a variety of options for calming, expressing themselves, and practicing healthy coping strategies.\r\n\r\nOur behavior support specialist and I are continuing to work toward adding a few final items to the Hawks Nest so that we can fully develop the space for its intended purpose: providing students with a safe, supportive environment where they can relax, reset, and regulate their emotions before returning to learning. We hope to add a few more materials and tools for students, as well as RGB lighting that will allow us to turn down the bright ceiling lights and create a softer, more relaxing atmosphere.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for the materials we received and for the generosity that made them possible. These resources are already helping us create a more welcoming and supportive space for our students, and we are excited to continue finding meaningful ways to use them throughout the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1778039399178,"projectUrl":"project/hawks-nest-restorative-center/10221738/","projectTitle":"Hawks Nest Restorative Center","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thomason","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5387837"},{"teacherId":10266808,"projectId":10230813,"letterContent":"These materials have helped make our classroom a more organized, engaging, and joyful place to learn. The stories of scientists, inventors, and women in STEM have encouraged students to see themselves as capable creators, problem-solvers, and innovators. Students are making connections between the people they read about and the hands-on projects they are designing and building.\r\n\r\nThe kindness, empathy, and diversity books helped us establish our new classroom community by giving students meaningful opportunities to talk about respect, differences, compassion, and how we treat others.
