With these materials, I'm able to create small groups that target each student's needs; whether they're building foundational skills, practicing grade-level concepts, or tackling enrichment challenges. This flexibility has made math time more engaging and effective. Students are more confident and motivated because the lessons feel like they're designed just for them, not one-size-fits-all.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most about these new resources is how interactive and creative they are. They love exploring new games, puzzles, and practice sets that make math fun while still challenging them to think critically. Because I can continuously update and rotate the materials, math never feels repetitive or stale. Students are also able to see their own progress more clearly, which has boosted their confidence and participation during lessons.\r\n\r\nI've especially noticed a change in a few students who used to feel discouraged in math. Having access to materials that scaffold learning and provide visual supports has helped them find success and enjoy the subject again. On the other hand, my quick finishers are thrilled to have meaningful extension activities that push their thinking even further. Through these books, we focus on building comprehension strategies like identifying theme, analyzing character development, making inferences, and summarizing. We also teach vocabulary in context and how to cite text evidence to support thinking—skills that are crucial for developing thoughtful, independent readers.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic skills, these books help students practice empathy, recognize different perspectives, and connect literature to their own lives. Many of the stories feature characters overcoming challenges, standing up for what they believe in, or navigating friendships—topics that really resonate with fourth graders.\r\n\r\nIn our classrooms, reading is both a shared and personal experience. Some days, you'll find us reading independently in cozy corners with books chosen from our classroom library—students completely engrossed in their stories. Other times, we're in small guided reading groups, diving deep into a common text, discussing what's happening, and making predictions together.\r\n\r\nWe also have regular book talks, where students recommend books to one another. Thanks to the books you helped fund, we've been able to keep our classroom library current and exciting, and that has made all the difference in motivating students to read—and love it. \r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to these books continuing to make an even bigger impact in our classrooms next year, too!","fullyFundedDate":1746760101101,"projectUrl":"project/launching-lifelong-readers-with-the-2026/9286002/","projectTitle":"Launching Lifelong Readers with the 2026 Maud Hart Lovelace Nominees!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wollin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9606093"},{"teacherId":9606093,"projectId":9214117,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our fourth-grade classrooms were transformed into spaces of curiosity, creativity, and confidence. The Who Was...? books provided engaging, age-appropriate biographies that empowered our students to dive deep into history and connect personally with influential figures from the past and present.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, each student selected an influential figure to research, write about, and ultimately portray in our living wax museum. This hands-on experience not only improved their reading comprehension and research skills but also boosted their writing, speaking, and presentation abilities. Watching students come alive as Rosa Parks, Michael Phelps, Albert Einstein, Selena, Isaac Newton, Shaun White, and many others was a powerful reminder of how meaningful learning becomes when students are truly engaged.\r\n\r\nYour donation brought history to life in our classrooms—and helped our students see themselves as part of a larger story.
