The slushie machine has become a special part of our Friday routine and is used as a positive behavior incentive. Throughout the week, students work hard to demonstrate kindness, responsibility, respect, perseverance, and positive behavior. On Fridays, students who have met our classroom expectations get to celebrate their accomplishments with a fun slushie treat.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the slushie machine, they were beyond excited! It immediately caught their attention and created so much enthusiasm in our classroom. However, what has meant the most to me is seeing how the machine has become more than just a fun reward. It has given us an opportunity to recognize students for the positive choices they make every day. Because we now have enough instruments for everyone, each student gets the chance to be actively involved in making music rather than just watching. The ukulele is the perfect instrument for beginners — it's the right size for small hands, easy to learn, and gives students a sense of accomplishment very quickly. That immediate success has built so much confidence and excitement for music.\r\n\r\nThe ukuleles have also helped us grow as a classroom community. Students learn to listen to one another, work together in rhythm, and take pride in creating something beautiful as a group.
