What used to be a busy, sometimes overwhelming morning transition has become a calm, engaging routine that helps students ease into learning with confidence and joy.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on materials you helped provide give students the chance to build, create, explore, and problem-solve the moment they walk through the door. These activities spark their curiosity and activate their brains in meaningful ways, setting a positive tone for the entire day. I've noticed students settling more quickly, working collaboratively, and showing more independence as they choose activities that interest them.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, our classroom feels calmer and more connected. Students start their day feeling successful, focused, and ready to learn—all because of the tools you helped put in their hands.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of a strong start to the day and for making such a real and lasting difference in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1756844494704,"projectUrl":"project/smart-start-brain-bins-hands-on-morning/9671412/","projectTitle":"Smart Start Brain Bins: Hands-On Morning Bins for Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McSherry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2569267_orig.png?crop=136,136,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756760323218","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msholders1stgradejungle"},{"teacherId":10232943,"projectId":9665166,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom now has the SEL tools we needed to help students gain confidence, self-awareness, and stronger communication skills. We've already begun using the new resources during morning meetings and small group lessons, and the difference has been noticeable. One of our first activities involved students choosing cards that represented their current feelings and then sharing why they felt that way. For some of my quieter students, this was the first time they comfortably expressed how they were feeling in front of others—and their classmates responded with encouragement and respect. It was a moment that truly showed how these resources are helping to build trust and community in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were excited and curious. They were immediately drawn to the visuals, hands-on tools, and reflective prompts, and they couldn't wait to explore them. Several students commented that they finally had \"a way to say what they were feeling,\" and others shared that they liked having tools to help calm down, think things through, and reflect.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our current SEL lessons, students will be using these materials to practice strategies for emotional regulation, problem-solving, and positive peer interactions. Our next steps include using the tools in weekly circles and journaling reflections about how their choices and emotions affect their daily experiences. These resources will help guide meaningful conversations, deepen self-understanding, and build the social and emotional skills they will carry with them well beyond this school year.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your support, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1756679116389,"projectUrl":"project/the-regulation-station/9665166/","projectTitle":"The Regulation Station","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Richardson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10232943"},{"teacherId":7993025,"projectId":9223724,"letterContent":"My students have been so excited to use the new games and materials during PBIS free play time! These resources have given us the chance to create a positive and structured reward system. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students work together playing a tic-tac-toe game. They encouraged each other, took turns, and celebrated small wins as a team. It was a perfect example of fun mixed with social skill building. \r\nTheir faces lit up! Many of them cheered, pointed out which games they wanted to try first, and couldn't wait to get started. They were thrilled to see that PBIS free play time now included brand-new options that made the reward feel even more special.\r\nNext, we'll be using these materials to support ongoing lessons on teamwork, cooperation, and positive behavior. The PBIS games are not only a reward but also a teaching tool that helps reinforce problem-solving and collaboration. Students earn points each day for good behavior, which we track with Dojo. This year students could spend points once a month for prizes. The donations we received were used in our Wildcat Market. The Wildcat Market is set up in my classroom, but we have a Shopping List on a google sides. In older grade the students get to fill out a from or goal sheet for themselves, younger grades the teacher or Instructional Assistant helps them pick a prize. Then the students get to come to the market with the form and pick out or pick up their prize. Getting to see that they are excited about meeting a goal is rewarding and helps the students see what can be done and working hard paying off. Some of our students are lower income and don't always have the luxury of going to the store and getting little prizes like other kids do. The feedback the PBIS team got from this years market was that the students enjoyed the prizes this year and really loved the snacks being part of it this year. I have two students in a wheelchair, one that loves to get on the floor and move around. I was scared to put him on this hard floor before but now with the rug he lays, sits, and crawls in the sensory area and I don't have to worry as much. This area is also where we have morning meetings, do the calendar and I can sit and read aloud to them. I will continue to add new sensory activities as time goes on. \r\nThe next step for my classroom would be to do more science experiments my students love to learn, by being non verbal they learn more with hands-on activities. Science experiments are crucial for special education students because they provide a hands-on, engaging way to learn scientific concepts, which can be particularly beneficial for students who struggle with traditional learning methods, fostering deeper understanding, critical thinking skills, and a sense of accomplishment through active participation.
