Students used the materials to design and build indoor greenhouses, where they are growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers to donate to members of our local community. One standout moment was watching groups troubleshoot their greenhouse designs—adjusting light placement, water systems, and spacing—completely on their own. They took real ownership of the process, and it became more than a project; it became a shared mission.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate and contagious. Students were genuinely thrilled as they unpacked everything, already brainstorming ideas and assigning roles within their groups. That moment of seeing their project come to life through the generosity of donors made a lasting impression—they understood that others believed in their work and were invested in their success.\r\n\r\nThis project has had a powerful impact beyond academics. Students developed a deeper understanding of sustainability while also learning essential life skills like cooperation, problem-solving, and communication. They worked together to ensure each greenhouse was successful, knowing their efforts would directly benefit others. Donating their plants to the community gave them a sense of pride and connection—they saw firsthand how their work could make a difference.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students are preparing to present their sustainability project to the UNSSDC. They are refining their presentations, collecting data on plant growth, and reflecting on the environmental and social impact of their work. These next steps are helping them think critically about sustainability on a larger scale while building confidence in sharing their ideas with a broader audience.\r\n\r\nThis experience has been incredibly positive for both the students and the community. It has reinforced the importance of working together toward a common goal and shown students that even small actions—like growing a plant—can contribute to meaningful change.","fullyFundedDate":1771031792470,"projectUrl":"project/hs-student-sustainability-project-we-nee/9906588/","projectTitle":"HS Student Sustainability Project We Need Your Help!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cuturilo, Mrs.Blahovec, Mr. Corona, Mr.Kunselman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10354696"},{"teacherId":10398927,"projectId":9991850,"letterContent":"My students and I want to thank you for choosing to donate to our future endeavors. We are excited to share some of our ideas that have been brought up due to your donations.\r\n\r\nFirst, the posters are great. The Math poster, especially, has shown us what Math can do for you and your careers. There are so many choices, and we have had great conversation about those careers. It is been fun to research those careers, inspiring us to work harder for what we want.\r\n\r\nThe Science posters and information that we have received is amazing. The students have also been researching Science possibilities as well. They love being able to see what their futures may hold in the years to come. They are also looking forward to focusing on their careers and in three year, going out into the read world to explore.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity. Me telling the students what is available for their future is one thing.
