My students often come to class worried about not having the basic tools they need to succeed. When they saw the \"Bright Supplies\" arrive, the anxiety of \"Who has a pencil I can borrow?\" vanished. One student even joked, \"New pencils make my handwriting look like a professional author's!\"\r\n\r\nHow We Are Using the Resources\r\nWith these supplies, we have launched our \"Booked Vocabulary Playbook.\" Because we now have an abundance of paper, every student has their own dedicated journal to track the \"big words\" (the malapropisms and definitions) from Kwame Alexander's novel. We've been using the pencils to sketch out \"Found Poetry\", taking lines from the book and rearranging them to create original verses about my students' own lives, sports, and challenges.\r\n\r\nWhat's Next for My Students\r\nNow that we aren't limited by a lack of materials, we are moving into our Final Draft Phase. Students are currently drafting their own \"Mini-Graphic Novels\" inspired by the illustrations in The Crossover. Having enough supplies means they can brainstorm, edit, and create final masterpieces without the fear of \"wasting\" a sheet. It is truly a blessing to be funded for this project, especially since so many aspect of our new Science Curriculum this year is online. Having headphones that actually work is essential! My students LOVE the new headphones, and they are doing their best to make sure they take care of these brand new headphones! The headphones are placed into gallon-sized ziptop baggies and are stored in a storage crate and a box for quick student access. \r\n\r\nStudents have commented how much they love the headphones because the earpieces are comfortable on their ears. My students also commented on the sound quality of the headphones. They do complain that I won't let them use the headphones to listen to music while they work! I don't want them to get distracted from their Science by finding different songs on YouTube for entertainment purposes! 🤣\r\n\r\nI have students that have instructional educational plans (IEPs) that require them to have oral administration for any tests that they take. The headphones give them that ability. They are also used to assists students with reading the text on any online assignment that is given. This is very much a blessing that I appreciate!
