I explained to students that these were generously gifted to us and that we had a responsibility to take care of the materials, so they could be used by future 4th graders. \r\n\r\nWe are already putting these resources to work during our daily RTI blocks and partner-work activities. A specific moment that stands out occurred last week during a math lesson. A pair of partners felt distracted by the peers around them and were having difficulty focusing on their task. To solve this issue, they grabbed the donut seats and moved to another area in the classroom. This demonstrated their problem-solving skills and desire to be responsible learners. By having an outlet for flexible seating, they were able to stay regulated and finish the entire assignment without feeling overwhelmed by the distractions around them. This shift has created a culture where student well-being is prioritized alongside academic achievement.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to integrate these tools into other academic blocks and build up students' ability to properly use these them. With time and practice, my hope is that flexible seating can be available consistently throughout the day and not only during specific blocks or activities.
